It's too bad they couldn't throw in the 1954 version Destry.

I'm not familiar with the title but it seems right up my alley. Now if only Criterion can release the other Universal-Film Foundation-collaboration-restoration Jimmy Stewart western *cough* "Winchester '73" *cough*.

I'd honestly thought they'd release both films in the same month. I believe Winchester will follow shortly.

Super excited for Destry. One of the best Westerns of the 30s. Also, legendary is the catfight between Marlene Dietrich and Una Merkel. Superb cast and great musical numbers sung by the wonderful one and only Marlene.

I would have to think Winchester 73 would come soon enough from Criterion so that I can upgrade my Universal DVD.

This is pleasant news.

I add my voice to the appeals for Winchester '73.

I wish they had thrown in the original pre-code, a hit in 1932.

It's only an hour long, it survives in good shape, and it's a lot more interesting.

Totally agree, this is a classic western. There have been many outstanding bar fights filmed in numerous westerns, but Destry Rides Again has to be one of the best ones in my opinion. As a fan of the genre, I'm definitely up for this.

I love Destry Rides Again (1939).

Agreed. It's not a great film, but it's entertaining and has some good names associated with it. Including it as an extra would be the perfect way to get it out.

I agree. I recall the 1954 version as very agreeable, if not a patch on the original, and Audie Murphy as quite charming in the role.

Jimmy Stewart is about as controversial as Mister Rogers which is say not at all controversial. In that I hope and believe he is joking but you can never tell anymore on the internet.

I just bought winchester 73 and destry rides again from Germany based on reviews from dvdbeaver. Winchester 73 is on its way but was able to cancel destry when it was preparing to ship. I only payed 14.27 dollars shipping included for winchester 73 and will be upgrading when Criterion announces it.

I haven't heard anything bad on James Stewart and i live in his home town of indiana pa. I know he was conservative but not nearly as much as I am.
