Paramount To Catch a Thief 4K UHD (Paramount Presents #3)

Paramount will be releasing Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief on 4K on October 15th! This will feature HDR 10 and Dolby Vision, so fingers crossed it will be a big improvement from their BD release.

Quote:
For the first time in 4K Ultra-HD, Alfred Hitchcock’s essential TO CATCH A THIEF comes to Paramount Presents with expanded special features and incredible HDR-10 and Dolby Vision. Cary Grant plays John Robie, a reformed jewel thief once known as "The Cat." When he is suspected of new gem thefts in the luxury hotels of the French Riviera, Robie sees a plot to clear himself after meeting pampered heiress Frances (Grace Kelly). Romantic sparks fly as the suspense builds in this essential VistaVision classic, which nabbed an Oscar for Best Cinematography.

"Honey, I can't understand this."
"There's no head or tails to it."

Besides the silver spine, the 4K also appears to add the VistaVision logo to the front of the cover art, unlike the Blu-ray release.

I believe this is also the first Presents Blu-ray that got a 4K upgrade under the Presents line. Others have been upgraded to 4K but as standard releases.

They also need to reapply the day-to-night filters.

Default Truth

Lots of truth in this thread, which is why it's a hard decision to pre-order sight unseen. I own the older Blu, and just may have to accept as flawed as it is, it's still superior to the latest restoration.

This has the potential to be absolutely stunning. I haven't seen the 2020 release but am aware of its issues, so fingers crossed that they don't carry over.

DEFINITELY waiting to order this one based on last poor BD, which this presumably will be using the same master of. Only hope is they did a bad job downscaling that damaged the fine detail

Paramount is so random it's 50/50 they just slap that same master on a 66GB disc and move on. Hopefully those small changes Mifunefan mentioned are sign of them going back to the drawing board I'd love to finally toss my ancient Blu-ray

Isn't the 4K Dolby Vision version on itunes the same trash as on the latest Blu-ray? Don't expect anything else from the UHD.

Watched the original Blu-ray the other day, and it's a mixed bag. Some shots are perfect, but there is weird macroblocking going on in some backgrounds, dips in resolution occur rather frequently, etc..
Grace Kelly is the epitomy of the Hollywood princess. She was devastatingly gorgeous. Love her in Rear Window as well.
I sincerely hope this will right all the wrongs, as it's a terrific film that deserves a stellar treatment.

I doubt it will be anything other than the existing 4K transfer that's on digital platforms (which still has the DNR) on a disc

There is a LOT wrong with the 4K master(incorrect framing, green night sequences are now blue, heavy DNR) so I’m not expecting this to be a good disc. Will wait to see some reviews and most likely stick with my 2012 blu.
