Default Logan’s Run-the perfect idea for an extra for a 50th anniversary edition

I just rewatched it today and Logan and Jessica discuss various things about growing old together.

For an extra for the 50th anniversary edition it would be the coolest thing in the world to have Michael York and Jenny Agutter film a brief scene together as Logan and Jessica as an old couple that have been together for 50 years.

2026 will be 50 years.

The powers at be have both my permission and my blessing to take this idea and run with it.

Please do this!

Didn't realize it was 50 years for it. Always seemed like a film ahead of its time.

Agree. And great time to see a nice new UHD remaster, with all the deleted scenes included as extras.

The remake was supposed to begin filming earlier this year but there's been no update, funny how I was also just thinking about it earlier today. This and The Time Machine (1960) occupy my brain as a perfect double feature.

Mike Bays The Island is sort of a remake of this and a damned good one. Quite under rated, IMO. I remember the original, sort of. Might watch it again. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. Jenny Agutter was a babe.

I was surprised (and delighted as a 16 year old) that they had nude shots of Agutter that got approved with a PG rating.

I could be mis remembering the nude shot as I haven’t watched the film in a while but there was a bit of skin visible. For a 16 year old guy it was a big deal.

I dont want a "remake".

I want a trilogy like the books and reveal where the real Sanctuary is.
I want the build-up to the youth revolution and the domed cities.

The books have some cool mythology and action, and we now have the tech to flesh out the books (and even reference the tV series).

That would probably play better as a mini-series. I’m not sure who owns the rights to the books any longer (Saul David had an option on the sequel novel as well back in the day with an interest in doing a sequel. That, instead, turned into the TV series which essentially revisited the first novel and with David forced out by the studio as I recall). The TV series is pretty good for what it is though creating a pilot that essentially revisited the first film (remaking it essentially) was an interesting if odd choice. I can see why they did it as the film had a conclusion that would not have lend itself well to a series but it would have been far more interesting to adapt Nolan’s ideas for the sequels especially given that he was involved in the original pilot.

Would it not need to be a remake to match the first book?

The idea of a remake would be remaking the film, which does not reflect the first book. The books are a trilogy.
In the film the domes explode and they make it seem like society discovers that growing old is a good thing...(Sanctuary).

Thats NOT the first book.

That is what I am saying, you said you did not want a remake. It would have to be a remake though right. You cannot do a sequel to the first movie based on the books. Sorry if I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

If they stick closer to the trilogy, whether its a Film Trilogy or streaming series, it wouldn't be a RE-make of the 70's film.
I don't think they should try to re-do the film.....or try to squeeze out a sequel of the 70's film since it was "resolved" at the end.

Run....World.....Search....Run is just the beginning.

This new Gunn Superman is not a RE-Make of Superman 78.

The Planet of the Apes...(all versions) have yet to reference the original French book where Apes are living in a futuristic cities with jet packs on.

Yep. I think, again, this would lend all three books to a mini-series though the spoiler of the “Ballard” (who was spun off to the character of the Old Man in the film kind of). Since there are three novels, two unpublished novels and a novelette, this could be done as a five year series.

In the novel we did find out there was a real sanctuary and the second novel dealt with Logan living in Sanctuary and did return to the city. The third novel takes place in alternate universe that Logan travels to with the assistance of aliens.

If I recall correctly.....Sanctuary was on the Moon, and u had to leave the bubble city to get aligned with the underground and be worthy to have access.
I think he got to the Moon/Sanctuary via Rocket Ship at the end of Book 2.

To me the core ideal is that the 60's Hippie revolution created a counter-culture than despised the adults that ****ed the planet up. So well take control and kill off anyone who becomes an adult, to prevent this cycle from continuing.

Great premise, but isnt really as universal as the Apes/Human =Chicken/egg premise of the 60's Planet Of The Apes. Teen revolution is very American.
And Yes The Beatles changed the game but wouldnt have if they didnt get promoted in America........and might not translate in 2024 with adults and teens having closed that gap since the The Big Chill.

Close. It was an abandoned space station in orbit or near Mars called Argos (as I recall). I think with the generational changes it might be appropriate to revisit it.

I joined IMDBPro to see if I could find Mr. York's agent.

They have a number of people listed.

I will go through them and see if any can help.

I remember when the remake was supposedly w/ Gosling staring and Refn Directing. This was talked about before Only God Forgives comes out.
