Default Why the 360 will never support a Blu Drive

You know after talking to people and just going over things the possibility and idea of a Blu Ray Add on Drive on a 360 is very possible, it's just that it would NEVER happen. And the reasons why it wouldnt' happen are actually kinda subtle. MAny people think it's just Microsoft not getting along with Sony or the "enemy" or something kinda silly along those lines but it's in fact something that's differnt from that idea.

It's the simple fact that Blu Ray uses alot of Java and Sun Microsystem Programming (Founder of Java). And MS has never really been on the greatest terms with Sun Hence their versions of Visual Basics and Visual Studios. In general Microsoft just would never want to pay out Royalties to anyone. I actually own a 360 and 2 Blu Ray Drives on my two laptops and have been holding out on buying a PS3 for the longest time but I think I'll picking one up super soon. As soon as Metal Gear 4 Comes out I'll be picking up a PS3 along with the game, lol.

What goes in the game industry stays in the game industry.

A perfect example is Toshiba working with Sony to create the Cell Processor in the PS3.
Then, as an out-of-game-industry thing - attempting to kill BD in a format war.

However, Sony is NOT the only one whos in the BDA... People just assume so because the PS3 has a BD drive.

As much as i hate microsoft, and the x-box brand, and as much as i dont think there will be a BD drive in the 360, your reason for it not happening simply doesnt work.
Theres really no reason whatsoever for microsoft to not but a BD drive in the 360. Its just a matter of if they want to or not... Which they dont... cause they dont care about high def media.

Some of those may be true but the real reason there won't be one is because MS doesn't care about HDM. They might start to care when it begins to catch on but at this point they're back to their "games sell consoles" line. It's true, of course, but they've put themselves in a bit of a bind with all of this. Sony's gamble paying off was the last thing they needed.

Yeah but honestly who wants to download 7 gigs to watch a 2 hour movie over a console that overheats, lol. To add to that the quality is only 780 I think. right?

i think its wrong to assume Microsoft doesn't care about HDM, while their long long term goal is for hd downloads, they surely must know this will not happen for upwards of 10 years, and 10 years + is a very long time, to not "care"

Something I hate is fanboys. Whether they are xbox fanboys or ps3 fanboys, I hate them. Both consoles offer very good things and there's no reason to hate one. Why can't the xbox have blu-ray? If the xbox doesn't include blu-ray, in about 5 years, it will be dead. Games will be over 9.7 GB and a dvd can't handle that.

Even if they add a blu-ray drive, that'll just be an add-on, meaning it only plays movie. Their game disc will still be DVD9. It changes nothing. Besides, in about 5 years or so it'll be dead anyways, with or without a Blu-ray drive. 5 years calls for next gen.

Default Dead Rising was why I bought Xbox 360

I loved playing Dead Rising on the Xbox 360 and its the reason I bought the system. I expected true 1080p and then realized that my 360 did not have a HDMI connection. what a disappointment.

I had the red circle of death problem and I sent in my 360 in August 2007 and they sent me a Brand New 360 4 weeks later Sept 2007, with no HDMI connection.

I am so happy Sony won the format war.

You can get 1080 with a VGA connection if you don't have HDMI

Considering that the HDMI white systems didn't hit the market until October or so, of course you didn't get one. There aren't any in the replacement chain

is it just me or does the very idea of digital downloading just suck? i mean you download something to your hard drive and it's a huge file it's not like a hd movie is a gig or anything i have hundreds of dvds and over 30 blu rays you know how much hard drive space that would eat up? not to mention if your hard drive crashes you lose all thats on it...i bought warhawk rather then downloaded just b/c i feel safer w/ an actual disc. that i know it will always work. i know disc can get messed up but out of all the disc i own i've had trouble w/ like one music cd.

i dont think a majority of america wants to get rid of physical media and the truth is digital downloading just isnt very viable for the everyday consumer.

and to chime in i could see a blu ray add on for the 360 but i dont think it'll happen b/c microsoft for all their faults love their pet projects and back them up.

here's a question will the next xbox be all downloads w no disc drive? b/c i would see that as the death of microsoft in their little video game experiment.

If MS thinks that having a BD add on will keep some people from buying a PS3, you better bet that they will have an add on soon.

Anyone can license Java and Blu-ray who ponies up the appropriate fees. Period.

"We don't like you" is not sufficient legal grounds for a license denial. If it could be proven let's say, that a company had provided secret details of copy protection systems in the past to non-license members, then there would be grounds that would stand up in court

Eh it's only an add-on. Ultimately, the PS3 would still be a better system because we have our games in BD-Rom where they are still stuck with DVD-9. Also they STILL would have to pay another $200 for their add-on anyway and we get alot of features for free(wifi, online gameplay, downloadable content....etc.) that the Xbox people have to pay for so it really does not matter if they do or not get the BD add-on. Playstation 3 is still IMO the dominant console.

$$$$$$$$

That's what it's all about. If M$ feels that they an make a profit by making a blu-ray addon drive, they will make it.

Really that's all that they care about.

I really dont see them making one - it wouldnt help their download garbage intentions. Microsuck is just an American company trying real hard to be communist, and succeeding.

If Microsoft wants to add a blu ray drive there's really nothing sony can do
about it.....

Think about it what company needs the other one more.....

Microsoft adding a add on to there machine....

Or Sony computers that have windows in it.....

What if Microsoft said you don't give us the right to make a blu ray drive, you
don't get to use windows....How quick would sony say yes...
