**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT**

Our first release of the near year is quite the shocking one: The gritty and tense “snuff” thriller 8MM is coming to Blu-ray January 8th!

Nicolas Cage (Mandy) stars with Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line), James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), Catherine Keener (Get Out) and Peter Stormare (Fargo) in this electrifying film from the writer of Se7en. Directed by Joel Schumacher, this dramatic story follows one man's obsessive search to the truth about a six-year-old crime – and his ultimate discovery of the truth about himself.

Extras are in progress and will be announced on a later date.

Pre-order 8MM now @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=6947 to receive early shipping ahead of national release date!

Finally this is getting the HD treatment. I rewatched it this summer on Hulu, and while some of the dialogue during the more dramatic scenes wasn't as good as I remember, I still think this is a very effective thriller. Loved Joaquin Phoenix in this.

I think of this film as a kind of pseudo remake of the George C. Scott film Hardcore. Haven't watched 8mm in quite a while so I don't remember how gritty it is. Still planning to pick up a copy.

They're thematically similar but there are also lots of differences.

I really liked 8MM when it first came out. The atmosphere through the first 3/4 of the movie was intense and intriguing. But like a lot of mysteries, once it got to the end and the "solution" it wasn't as good and sort of dropped into standard Hollywood movie thriller territory. Still, the good outweighs the bad and I'll definitely be picking this up.

This film was panned by critics at the time but it's the kind of thing I usually enjoy. Interesting announcement.

Not quite! 8MM wasn't a remake of Hardcore, the subject matter between both movies are similar, but the storylines are different.

I saw 8MM in the theater and have only seen it since a handful of times on TV, and not at all for a long time now. Glad to see it's finally coming out on Blu-ray. It's dark and at times disturbing but it's a really solid little flick.

what's the situation with missing / edited footage from this? i think it's a film that was shot in a grittier way and commercially altered?

Great news! Love Cage and Gandolfini in this.

It came out in 1999 though.

Not sure but I do that Andrew Kevin Walker's script was heavily altered.

And it's currently on sale for $14.95. But the sale ends today at 4 p.m. EDT, so act fast.

Powerhouse also put out a region free release in the UK.
