Question playstation 3 or stand alone player?

I am thinking of jumping in and finally going blue. Been on the fence because of hd-dvd. I play games but I want a really nice movie player. In the past game systems didnt do dvd as good as a stand alone unit( my experience anyway). Is there a drive speed issue( x2,x8,x12)? I am on this line of thinking.......ps3 is one of the 1st ones out there and I heard(dont know if its true) its a single speed which causes long loading and such. Is there a x2 speed drive and does that improve performance? As you can see I still have alot to learn

PS3 has the quickest load times of any Blu-ray player. Future proof.

Cons - as of right now it can play a lot of high-def audio codecs.

I have used both, and I would say the ps3 is just as good as the stand alones. I think the java works much better on the ps3! But over all, you can go either way and be fine. But I must say the ps3 gaming is very addictive!

Whoever told you Blu-ray load slow on PS3 don't know what they're talking about. Blu-ray not only load quick on Ps3 but the quality is also just as good as well.

The PS3 would be the best way to go. The extra features you get with the PS3 overshadows anything a standalone can do currently (except bitstream the lossless codecs to your A/V receiver to decode instead of decoding it internally like it does now).

Plus, you have a wireless connection to the internet (and that's just scratching the surface of what this thing can do).

True that, but my fingers hurt to type further you know. lol.

PS3 is best hardware I have ever purchased. Contrary to many out here, I went blu because of PS3. Otherwise I was just keeping my safe distance from this format war.

As soon as the Toshiba announcement was made, I bought my PS3 and started my BLU collection. My rational was easy... same money for stand alone or a ps3... and the quality is at least the same if not better... no brainer for me...

If you are into games as well as Blu then a PS3
If you are not into games then a stand alone

PS3 for sure - many critics consider it the best Blu player out now. Plus its supposedly the only player out now that can upgrade to profile 2.0 via firmware download.

get a ps3 whether you like games or not.....you can always play if you
get the urge(or if friends or family want to they can), it's the best machine...

The failure rate is almost 0, sometimes stand alone players i've heard have
problems with updates....and the updates can take days or weeks, where
sony has that ready in a hour or two if a movie needs it...

The PS3 is the best way to go, the only reason I added a stand alone to my collection was for dts master audio. PS3 best piece I ever owned
