Default Sad Story

So one of my business partners has been finishing their basement into an entertainment/recreation area, and had a local outfit come and install their a/v equipment (kind of HT lite). I don't know everything they have, because my partner is the wife (no offense to those females who are interested in electronics). I do know they got a Sony 46" XBR4, which is a fine purchase and a cable HDDVR, but they placed their order before the holidays, and made a decision based (I am told) on price (which stuns me) to get a Toshiba HDDVD player. They are just finally getting it installed this week. All I could do was convey my condolences. They save about $400 at the time, but now they have something that is nearly worthless, if you don't already have a collection of HDDVDs. I told her it was a pretty decend DVD upconverter. I hope her husband doesn't monitor this forum, because I will be recognized, I'm sure.

It's not a total disaster if the player doesn't break on them and if they have movies on it that they like and can enjoy for a while.

If they have that much cash then i'm sure buying a Blu ray player will not set them back a whole hell of alot. Just my 2 cents worth.

Exclamation Almost another sad story

We just hired a new guy where I work. As we were talking it came out that people at work consider me to be a HDTV expert and Mr. Blu-ray.

The new guy then says he just received an HD-DVD player from Amazon about five days ago.

His first day on the job was last Tuesday when the word got out that HD-DVD is officially dead.

I told him I would return that HD-DVD player ASAP!

He said he still had the box and the next day it was going back.

That was a close call.
