Default Online HD DVD hardware prices - end approaching?

Prices and linkages good as of 26-February-2008. Click on the hyper-linked model numbers to visit the product pages of each website.

Prices have stabilized but now the real news hits... Target.com no longer lists any Toshiba devices and Circuit City seems to be coming right behind them. Given the fact that Blu has finally won the war and we have clear evidence that retailers are already beginning to pull the Toshiba brand specifically, and HD-DVD in general, from their shelves and websites, this will be my last update.

The champagne tastes pretty good, doesn't it?

I've read from several red ants that A2 has better built quality than A3

yeah also something about being able to pass some kind of audio that the A3 cannot, figures Toshiba would make a newer model with less features.

I think you can get rid of the Sam's club/RCA, it has not been built for way over a year.

Default Absolutely ridiculous!

Amazon.com just dropped their pricing further on the Toshiba HD-DVD players...$121 for A3, $152 for A30 and $231 for A35

Who is buying this crap

Could someone in the BDA just tell Toshiba to cut it out and take the loss this year? No wonder other manufacturers are not making HD-DVD players....where's the profit?

This just seems to prolong things unnecessarily! I wish they would just jump on board so we can start fighting the real fight: Blu-ray versus DVD.

I just don't get it

No offense but do we really need all of these HD-DVD promotion threads popping up every 30mins. This has already been discussed.

Exactly. Let it die in peace.

Obviously, not enough people are buying the stuff, otherwise the price wouldn't keep plummeting. I don't know too many people that would run out and buy a Betamax player either.

Let's be realistic, prices are gonna continue to fall so don't worry about it...

Only hardcore fanboys will buy them up anyway...

Obviously nobody hence the prices falling further = D'uh!

49.99$, 74.99$ & 99.99$ is where the 3 DUD players are heading in the not to distant future...
(half those prices for open box) and once they're sold out, they're NEVER coming back

No one, that is why the prices drop every week. If people where buying then the prices would not drop (who does not want to make more money). But that is the whole joke, it has come to the point where it just does not make sense. Last week it was cheap, so you should buy. But if you bought last week, you overpaid because this week it is cheaper. And if you buy it this week you will overpay because next week it will be cheaper. Prices are in free fall because no one is buying and buying into it is bad because it is in free fall.

Even if Toshiba has internally decided to pull the plug on the HD DVD format, dropping the prices like this is expected to maximize whatever revenue they can get from existing inventory. Toshiba is losing money on every single unit sold at these prices. HD DVD will be dead within nine months...

The A2 downmixes high-res audio to 1.5 mb DTS over optical. The A3 donwmixes high-res audio to 640k DD over optical. I'm sure it has more to do with royalties paid to Dolby and DTS than it does Toshiba.
