By Scott Snowden in Las Vegas 8th January 2008 22:24 GMT

Hollywood-based Paramount Studios has denied claims that it will be dropping the HD DVD format and returning to Blu-ray Disc.

In an email sent to Bloomberg, Paramount spokeswoman Brenda Ciccone said: "Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format."

The comment was a direct result of speculation that the studio would use a clause allegedly written into its contract with the HD DVD camp that allows it to switch to Blu-ray if Warner Home Video dropped its support of Toshiba's standard. WHV last week did just that.

Meanwhile, another, slightly lesser-known studio has also switched to Blu-ray. Porn label Digital Playground is to adopt Blu-ray exclusively despite initially choosing HD DVD.

It has announced that it will be launching eight titles on the format next month to complement its big-budget HD porn fest Pirates based (very loosely we suspect) on Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean.

Its all starting to get a bit confusing

As many have already pointed out, Paramount will continue to deny it until the moment they announce the switch. Don't worry about what spokespersons say at this stage.

From what I have read, yes it is all confusing. Paramount seems that they they will continue to support HD-DVD, I have not read that Blu Ray will be an option, However from the source of where it started it all, there is a possibility, no solid article.

I Suspect that there will be announcement soon about blu ray for possibly for either Jan 2009 (Reasoning, is that not when there contract expires?) or at the end of CES and take advantage of the Clause in their contract

Is this gonna be another 1000+ post thread today?

No disrespect to either the British or Americans, but I need to see some proof from the French media. No one else has the expertise in Surrender that those Cheese-eating, Wine-guzzling, surrender monkeys have

Well, I'm hoping it's true. This war isn't over until the remaining studios come over to the Blu side. It's looking like it's getting closer to reality.

Well, the Japanese media is still quoting British media.

By the way, did anyone notice the article used the infamous "nail in the coffin" metaphor? I think the analyst reads these forums....

I think the thing I'm least looking forward to about this war being over is that a bunch of those angry HD-DVD supporters may come over here and bug us.

Are you pulling for Blu? I saw that you own 257 HD-DVDs...how are you feeling about these turn of events? I mean no offense...I'm just curious.

The turn of events suprised me big time. Didn't make me angry or cry like other people. I was an early adopter and knew quite well that there was going to be a loser in the format war. In the end, the one I supported lost. I accept it and move on.

I am more pissed off that I will have to replace my entire dvd collection lol! It took me eight years to build it up though. I have been giving my collection that I have upgraded to my mother, sister and niece. So I guess I didn't waste my money after all.
