Default Widescreen Question???

I just hooked up my PS3 to my Sony 55" 1080P SXRD. Should I just leave the picture where there are black voids at the top and bottom of movies, or is there something I can do to remove those? I can set my Picture mode on Zoom, and it takes those out, but when I do that, am I losing picture quality? Thanks!

Don't use the zoom function. You'll be cutting off some of the picture.
