Default Sony STR-DG910 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver

Does anyone on this forum own this? I was wondering if it was any good, since I read it is capable of doing DTS HD-Master Audio decoding , and is an overall excellent reciever. Can someone who owns it confirm that for me?

I don't own it, but it is due to be superseded by the STR-DG920 shortly.

Options:-
  • Buy it now and watch the price crash
  • Buy it discounted when the STR-DG920 comes out
  • Buy a STR-DG920

In that case Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio may be a bit rich for you. I would just plump for a regular Dolby Digital / DTS setup to tide you by and wait till prices drop and your disposable income increases.

Have a look on eBay, there will be plenty of bargain 910s about when the new one arrives.

Have that reciever in my setup. Picked it up for $200 off Ebay. Running:

Sony STR-DG910
6 Klipsch Reference RSX-4 surrounds
1 Klipsch Reference RCX-4 center
1 Klipsch RPW 10 Sub

Total was under 1k, had a 5k budget for my entire system so I ended up with the above audio and:

50" Hitachi Ultravision P50S601
Playstation 3 40 gig

All together Im quite happy, great receiver for the money.

The 910 will not decode Master Audio, but the 920, due out very soon, will decode MA and Dolby True HD.

I also have the receiver.. And it plays Dolby True HD fine when the PS3 decodes it.

Since you are using the PS3... just have that decode the true hd and dts -hd when the update becomes available to decode dts.

You don't need a receiver to decode the hd codecs if your player does.

It also passes 1080/24p fine also.

buy a onkyo. sony receivers are not very good in the power department.
also their distortion ratio is terrible. would you rather 100 watts of garbage or 50 watts of clean power. they make great cameras, camcorders, dvd players, but not home theater.

I've been using one for the last year or so now and am happy with it. There are definitely better receivers out there to be had for a tad more money, but I definitely feel that I got my bang for the buck out of it. Not sure about the DTS HD MA but once the PS3 update is available I will find out!
