Hi,

I'm Glad to inform you that Blu-Ray Discs has exceeded HD-DVD on DVDempire.com by 8 titles, and let's not forget some of warner titles which are still not available on Blu-Ray like Batman begins .

BD=190

HD-DVD=182

That was FAST!!! I can't believe this myself :O

Last week, numerous people predicted that January 30 (or Q1 2007) was the date when Blu-ray exceed HD-DVD.

I didn't expect at all that that it was possible to exceed the count within this year.

I'm totally speechless and even shocked in surprise and awe.

To think that Blu-ray exceeded the rival EVEN BEFORE CES 2007 is just......

Waaah, I can't even believe it myself that such would happen this early (before the year ends).

Unbelievable stuff...

This is in titles available to order/pre-order, not titles currently out, but yeah, it's really good news. On my personal spreadsheet (yes, I am that dorky) I'm still showing Jan 30 for passing HD DVD. Here's the numbers of announced titles I have so far for 2007 showing the surge in support for Blu-ray:

1/2/07:1 - 0
1/9/07: 1 - 0
1/16/07: 5 - 4
1/23/07: 13 - 2
1/30/07: 7 - 5
2/6/07: 6 - 2
2/13/07: 11 - 0
2/20/07: 3 - 1
2/27/07: 2 - 2
and nothing so far for either side until...
3/13/07: 8 - 0

Obviously, some or all of these numbers will change, but you can see how Blu-ray will really pull away. When you consider that WB (and maybe Paramount) will be making a lot of new and catalog releases on both formats with short lead times, the numbers should look even better.

Not really. Competition is good right now, makes Sony push to be better then HD-DVD.

While competition is good, there is also a confusion factor when you have a format war. Many people will not want to invest in a new format until they know for sure which one will prevail as the dominat format.

Competion is no good in this intance.

But, as long as HD-DVD exists, we won't see Universal on Blu-ray. So I say the faster they die, the better.

Honestly its hard to believe it took this long, with so much more studio support BD should have 3x the movies that HD-DVD does.

Wrong competitor - Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, etc. should/will compete to be king of the hill in software. Same was/is true for DVD.

So true. I'd rather have the companies in one format compete with each other to make the best possible Blu-Ray movie, rather then trying to out-do HD-DVD.

Very true. I think having ONE format (Blu-ray) will speed up adoption. Then when sales volume for Blu-ray is up, having everyone (studios and electronics and PC manufacturers) will provide plenty of competition for quality, prices and innovation.

Right now the battle is between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Later individual studios and CE companies will be competing more with each other.
