I personally haven't had that many issues with this player. Sunshine is a problems disc, but you can get it to play. There are others with random non repeatable issues as well. I would recommend it for someone who is looking to save space and have a large enough HD DVD collection to continue having an HD DVD player. From what I am reading the LG is turning out to be a good player, but if Samsung comes out with the May firmware update they will be eye (Samsung may trump if it goes internal decoding though). So far they have been keeping up with the firmware updates so right now it looks good for the May update. The original fear was that the SOC it was using may be causing the issues, but with the recent "ghost" firmware from LG it looks to be solved.

There is a HUGE discussion over at AVS on this, I know many people look down on this player because 1 its a Samsung and 2 it plays HD DVDs . All I can offer is my personal experience and I am very happy with it so far. For 450$ I would have been VERY happy with it.

I had the Samsung BD-UP5000 for exactly two days. It took that long to realize it was not an acceptable player. It will only stream TrueHD in two channel, problems with discs, quirky, etc...... If you really want a dual format player, get the LG BH200 as the current firmware update brings it up to speed. If not, get a Toshiba XA2 and a Panasonic BD30 if you can. I was much happier going that route with two fantastic players.

Like Majoran said, there is a large discussion going on at AVS concerning this player (and the LG).
