Hey guys, first post here. FYI I searched before I posted this thread
![]() Anyway, I'll be in the market for a new 42-50 plasma TV. I've been to my local Best Buy and it seems a lot of the Pioneer plasma TVs are now on clearance or open-item sales. Is there any info on the new line of the Pioneer plasma tvs? I just don't want to drop a few grand on a used tv when the new one comes out in a month. I saw that Panasonic is realeasing their new line as well, so it would make sense that Pioneer has new ones coming out relatively soon too? ![]() |

I can almost guarantee if you got a Pioneer you wouldn't be disappointed...if they have the 5080HD on sale or at a cheaper price you should jump on that one...I have heard so many great things about that set and even home theater magazine said it was one of the best!!!

I was wrong. They outsourced them to the Matsushita Inc. (Panasonic's parent company). I googled so you didn't have to.

Pioneer is not leaving the Plasma market as has been well documented here. They will still be doing all R&D, but having Panasonic do their manufacturing. Also, there is one more line of Pioneer manufactured Plasma's premiering in June which will be on sale for another year until the next generation comes out in 2009.

and Kuros are a good thing, but who can blame consumers when the 50" 1080p is $4k-$5k and the 720p is just as much as as all other brands 1080p models. |

Wrong... Pioneer is no longer making the glass panels for the Plasma sets. They are being outsourced to Panasonic. Pioneer will still be making the electronics for their plasma sets. they claim that all the glass is the same and it's their proprietary electronics that make the kuro sets so impressive.
Pioneer's next gen sets should be out at the end of summer. and according to those who saw them at CES this year, the jump in contrast with the new line is even more noticeable. |

They are producing one more generation of Kuro's first though. So mid summer the new Kuro's will be out and will be the last (probably) from Pioneer the rumor though is that they will sell the technology to Panasonic and have Panasonic manufacture the Kuro line for them. They sold their glass plant to sharp though.
