Default 720p display issues

Hi everyone. I've been having problems getting my ps3 to display in 720p. I have a 1080i tv and have no problems with my 360 but when I try it with my ps3 the screen goes all crazy and it looks wavy and sort of doubled. It displays fine at 1080i but since few of my games work at 1080i, i have to play my games in standard def. Any idea what the problem could be? Any help is much appreciated.

When going to the settings -> Video

Is your tv capable of 720p?

Your 360 is upscalling to 1080i, upscalling
can be bad or good its not a native signal.

Well I originally had my video settings to include all resolutions up to 1080i but when I did this and a game was switching to 720 I encountered the display problems previously mentioned, so I switched it to just 1080i. I don't know is there some setting I may have missed? I know for a fact my tv supports 720p, so it's not that.

Okay I was not sure you had a tv that supported 720p as said before
uncheck 1080i in video settings..

Video-Manual-uncheck 1080i

It should then be forced to remain 720p, some ps3 games native resolution is 720p.

I've tried switching the ps3 to it but the whole thing goes screwy. The tv is a samsung dynaflat HD. I've watched movies on my HD-DVD player in 720p, not to mention that most HD broadcasts on television are in 720p and they all look fine.

Strange that it's not accepting a 720p signal from your PS3. Is this over component cables, or are you doing an HDMI -> DVI conversion to get to your TV (I don't think that model supports HDMI natively)?

You probably have a rear-projection CRT TV. They are not capable of displaying a 720p signal. Those TVs do not adhere to the ATSC standards. Rear-projection HD-Ready/HD CRT TV can only accept 1080i signals and that's it.

Set the PS3 to 480p and 1080i (just leave those checked). Any games that do not support 1080i or 1080p resolutions will display in 480p.

Sorry, dude. I don't even know why manufacturers sold those TVs in the US (Europe didn't let them).

It's not a rear projection. It's a tube TV with HD capability. And like I said I'm almost positive that I've gotten 720p signals on there, unless all of my HD channels output at 1080i, which I highly doubt.

All of my HD channels are in 1080i. My cable box for my projector downscales it to 720p for my projector, and my older CRT TV is set at 1080i (output from cable box).

Does you TV have an "info" command on the remote which lets you see what type of input it is receiving. Also, is your HD-DVD connected by the same type of connections as your playstation. If not, you may want to try switching cables around to see if it makes a difference.

So I guess it is my TV, I could have sworn my HDDVD player worked on 720p earlier but now it wont. Is there any way to get my games to display in high def if I can only display at 1080i?

It doesn't matter. CRT TVs can not display 720p...period. It's the limit of the technology. It takes too long to explain. I must ask you to google "HD CRT 720p".

If you want it to work at all in HD, set the PS3 as I instructed in my earlier post.
