Default Blade Runner just came, which version?

My amazon order just came in yesterday and I wanted to get some opinions on which of the 5 different movies is the best for story / watch-ability and picture / sound?

I've heard the first one has the best picture, any thoughts?

I haven't seen this movie since the old DVD snapper case release...time to sell that one at the pawn shop.

The Final Cut. (it's on disc one)

That's for the Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition. I don't have the briefcase.

The Final Cut has the best for PQ and SQ. All versions are excellent on story. What I would suggest is to start out with the original U.S. Theatrical Version first and then look at the other ones just to see the differences in them.

I just ordered it from Amazon. I have a question though. I don't know if people remember this but apparently there was something wrong with the 5th Disc. It was supposed to have some type of alternate cut of the movie but instead it had the same exact contents of the FIRST disc.

I don't know how the studio responded but I want to know if its STILL going on now.

I don't want to go thru the hassle of returning it and everything...So can anyone guarantee that the latest copies that Amazon and other retailers have in stock are correct and contain EVERYTHING that is advertised as part of the package?

I'd really appreciate any info on this matter. Thanks in advance....

I started with the Final Cut and worked back. I liked the Final Cut the most. It's a great film, I wish I had seen it much sooner. Rutger Hauer delivers one of the most beautiful moments I've ever seen in a movie and the ending has multiple interpretations. Visuals shame some of the movies that are coming out now.

My copy from Amazon that I received last week was correct, but I'd still check when you get it.

The Final cut, it's the only one Ridley Scott is truely happy with, so it should be the only one you ever watch

I went the other way, started with the work print and worked to the final cut. I like to see how they progessed with each "cut" of the flim

Actually, aren't there only 4 versions of the movie?
Final Cut
U.S.Theatrical
International Theatrical
Director's Cut

If you want the best movie overall in PQ & SQ + story, it's the Final Cut. Well, the other three versions are thrown on DISC 3 and the PQ + SQ are not as superior as the the FINAL CUT. I recommend watching the FINAL CUT, then just watch DISC 3 to compare the differences in each version.

Final Cut. The Only Cut I've come to decide after all these years and various incarnations. The apparently WAS saved for last.

It should be the correct disc by now, I picked this BD up 2 months ago and it was correct.

The Final Cut looks & sounds the best.

No, there are 5. Disc 5 has the workprint version.

Ok, I see it. There are four OFFICIAL versions of the movie. Disc 5 is just a rarely seen version 'workprint' of the movie. ...the PQ + SQ on this one is really bad but I like the different opening movie title and 'replicant' definition text. Good stuff.

I got this last Chirstmas and, to be honest, I've only watched the Final Cut - the best for PQ & SQ and also the main reason for the release.

The original U.S. & International cuts feature the hideous drone of Harrison Ford's forced voiceover which, in addition to other key points, was the cause of much tension between Scott & Warners.

The workprint cut was accidently shown somewhere, somehow and features some scenes missing from the original theatrical releases and importantly omits the voiceover.

The cult following of that cut led to the eventual release of the Directors cut in the 1990s.

The Final Cut is pretty much a really cleaned up version of the Directors cut with some additional scences slotted in and some re-shot footage blended in to correct errors Scott was unhappy with when the rushed Directors Cut came out.

Watch The Final Cut first, then you can go back and probably skip through parts of the other cuts unless you're truly dedicated and fancy watching all 5 cuts in quick succession!

Enjoy!

This is generally how I first watch things... When watching Close Encounters, I started with the Director's cut. In Spielberg I trust! As soon as the wife lets me have the tv, I will be watching the Final cut of BladeRunner. Always go with the directors vision. If he's allowed a 2nd or third stab at the movie, he's probably doing things he couldn't have budgeted for, or didn't like about the theatrical release.

Nice explanation/summary. However by cleaned up do you mean they removed some scenes or that they just made it all look nice and flow smoothly?

I think I'm going to watch them in this order...

1) US Theatrical
2) International Theatrical
3) Work Print
4) Director's Cut
5) FINAL Cut

I think this will allow me to enjoy appreciate the beauty and greatness of the Final Cut which a lot of people have said is how Ridley Scott truly wanted it to be right?

Final Cut is all his. They cleaned up some effect shots- one example is a scene with a very obvious stunt double- they went back and got the original actress, shot her face in action, and then digitally put her face over the stunt double's. The end result is so good that even in slow motion I can't tell where the real ends and the digital begins.

Another example is that they added some quick "scenery" shots (such as two dancers in hockey masks) to add to the overall flow of the movie.

Personally I've only watched the Final Cut on BD. I have seen the theatrical and Director's enough to know that the Final is what I prefer by far, especially with the great PQ.
