I'm just an average user that doesn't go around copying and selling dvds. I enjoy movies, a fanatic if you will. But I am always concerned with scratching them to the point that they can no longer be viewed.
My idea to protect these were to build a stand alone system. A basic box with Windows Vista, a graphics card, outputs and a blu ray dvd drive. I want to copy the blu rays onto the computer and create a filing system so that you could shuffle through the library to select your movie quickly and easily. This would be connected to my Samsung HDTV and Bose theater for playback. I basically want to create a fully interactive dvd "jukebox". But I'm reading some disturbing news about Blu Ray that I'd like to have clarified. I have been reading about the mandatory management system and the Advanced Access Content System might not allow me to make my dream a reality. Is this true? Will I be able to make copies and view them on this system whenever I want without interference or failure from some kind of viral program similar to what Sony did with their cd's played on computers? And what if I wanted to transfer this to my laptop for viewing while I'm traveling? Is this going to be possible as well? |

They will not allow copying period. You do not have to worry about any rootkits. BD+ only loads when the disc does, and purges when you hit eject
THey are including iPod versions, and probably PSP versions in the future that can be unlocked and viewed while traveling. No ripping required With Blu-ray's hardcoat, you have to work really hard to damage your discs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5jEbZt6AIQ |
