Looks rather cool.
The BDA needs to ratify both BD-Live profile and the specs for DL BD-RE soon. They might also move forward the ratification of BD100/200 ROM/R/RE as soon as possible, so that second/third gen players have the capability to use 'em. Thanks for the heads up, Rio! fuad |

Gee, for $1200, what are you going to buy? An LG dual deck that favors a nearly dead format for the sake of one major studio or would you buy something like this? This is assuming you have $1200 to blow in the first place, of course. ![]() |

Usually they do invent a new connector. For some reason Toshiba decided to not introduce the Dx connector here, and reused RCA jacks again for Colorstream. Gary |

I'm certainly impressed with that kind of pricepoint for this kind of a product, though. That is VERY aggressive pricing. |

Ah. This is a stop-gap recorder. This is for those who already have a HighDef DVR and want to archive the recorded programs to a BD disc. That is why it is price cheaply.
Still pretty good for those who already have a HD-DVR. fuad |

Yes, this is *NOT* a usual BD recorder. It's a *PLAYER* with recording capability. This player doesn't have any sort of tuner, not only digital tuner but also analog one, as well as built-in HDD. Connecting it to Sharps' digital LCD TV or HiDef HDD/DVD recorder via FireWire, then take TS stream from TV or DVR and record onto a BD-RE disc in this machine.
All current BD players except PS3 utilize BD burner drive, so Sharp's this novel idea basically works if manufacturers put a decent software and FireWire connector, until the pricing point of BD recorders going down. Last edited by Rio; 02-14-2007 at 05:21 PM. |

![]() So, it's a player + A/V burner combo. If they are smart they'll allow it to be hooked to a PC/Mac via Firewire and make it a data burner too. |
