Default Rumor: PSP Firmware 5.0 To Feature Direct PSN Access

http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/1361.html

Quote:
The PSP is one sleek and diverse little unit, and given its ability to connect to the PlayStation 3, it means avid gamers have a darn good reason to own both platforms.
For a while now, Sony has been talking about enhancing the connectivity between the PS3 and PSP. They've already taken great strides, but there's one final step to take: give the handheld direct access to the PlayStation Network. Currently, if you want to download content on the Store for the PSP, you must first use the PS3 and then transfer it to the portable. But according to a report by French gaming site PSPGen and Exophase, the upcoming PSP firmware update will deliver this highly anticipated feature along with an "updated RSS reader capable of reading text-based articles." If you didn't already know, the RSS feature on the PSP is only limited to displaying items including only audio, video or images. Now, if firmware 5.0 really does deliver direct access to the PSN, that's going to be a huge selling point for the PSP. And remember, the new model - the PSP-3000 - already offers further incentive for interested consumers...
All we know is that this update should be released some during the fall, so we'll be on the lookout for any information regarding firmware 5.0. It would be perfect timing, what with the new model and the holidays right around the corner, but none of this has been officially confirmed just yet.

Now we just need to get more downloadable worthwhile PSP games!

Don't get me wrong, I love my currently games, FF Crisis Core, FF Tactics, FF2, and God of War. It just seems like good new releases for the PSP are extremely far apart yet the console itself sells like hot cakes. I understand its because of piracy issues and so on, but I just want to get more use out of my PSP gaming wise as I seem to have recently been primarily focused on my PS3 with all of these wonderful recent releases.

I'll save it for when 5.00 actually releases.

Here's the translated link, anyway.

I agree with you, but I also would like to see downloads a little cheaper.

Example - a week or two ago battelfield commander showed up on the store for the same price as the UMD at circuit city. Puzzle Quest, is maybe $2 cheaper than UMD.

Why not put these downloads at $10 each max, and if you want the UMD/case/manual, you pay extra.

Besides that, I just can't find anything that really makes me want to play the psp over the game backlog I have on ps3.

I've contemplated selling it - it feels like just about every week, but keep hanging on hoping something will show up.

If they make a PSP with mobile phone technology bringing the internet everywhere you go. I'd buy that for a $.

And if that happens, use the USB port so you can access the net with a laptop as well.

I'm not sold on these new PSP developments.

It shows some of the TOOL System Software features but none of the rumoured new consumer 5.00 stuff so it seems a bit useless as proof to me.
