Default Wall Mount or TV Stand?

I've noticed the majority of the people on this site opt to keep their lcd or plasma's on a tv stand. I was just wondering if there was any reason or logic to it or if it was just personal preference. I just got my LCD not too long ago and i knew getting it i would eventually want to wall mount it. I was just wondering, however if that would be a mistake, or if it would cause my tv to malfunction for any reason. Any input appreciated...

I wall mounted my TV because I like it a little higher than most stands I've seen. Of course after mounting it I just went ahead and built a taller stand anyway. If you buy the proper stand for your TV, you shouldn't have any problems.

I originally wanted to go wall mount as well. But I changed my mind and went with setting it on an enclosure. Not in and enclosure mind you, just on one because it is a convienient was of hiding all the cableing and such. I definately did not want cables running up my wall and decided that running them inside the wall was just too much trouble.

I decided not to wall mount mine because 1. I was the only person handling the tv and didn't want any accidents. 2. I have very little confidence with the walls in my house because they're made from drywall. 3. Easier to handle when its on a stand.

i had mine on a stand for awhile....i decided to mount...and i'd have to say having the tv mounted looks better....showcases the small tv size....and takes up less space in your living room/whatever area. Me being a parent also, having my tv out of my 3 year old son's reach is a big positive also. I have mine up higher, titled down at an angle....hands down, mount it!

i picked up a mount that fits 42-60 inch tv's for 55 shipped off amazon....took a total of 15 minutes to mount.....Don't know how having it mounted would hurt the tv...

ps. You can buy wire covers for 20 bucks from walmart, hides all wires and is paintable.

I went with tv stand...thought about wall mount...But then you have to commit to the tv being there for a long time...There is a stand out there that gives you the illusion of it being wall mounted also...either way you have to have something to sit your ps3...blu ray player...cable box on...mounted looks good..but stand does too...so its however you like..your choice...they both look good.

I agree...if you get the right stand it can look good too. I really like these, but they are rediculously expensive IMO...

Anyone know where to get stands similar to these, but more economical? I would rather spend the extra money on HT stuff

I think unless you're very cramped for space that a stand makes more sense. Wall mounts are fine if you know what you are doing but something could always go wrong in the installation.

for the best viewing you eyes should be level with the t.v., and if you play
video games, especially shooter games, wall mounting is not good....

I didn't say you couldn't play, but you get 10times better angle when you sitting eye level and when your shooting down it's actually down not up...

My friends t.v. is mounted, it's cool looking, but it's not the way i prefer
to play at all..

i had mine on the stand for 7 months....mounted it a month ago...wish i would of mounted sooner....when people come over, they ask " is that the same tv" ... the pq is the same due to lcd viewing angle....i believe that one of the biggest benefits of an lcd...is the 4-5 inch depth of it...placing on a wall really shows this off....on a stand..it might as well be a rear projection with better pq.just my opinion anyway

Having the set at eye level is key, most people mount way to high and picture quality suffers, and i think they look much better on a stand.

second this notion. I just dont understand why people would even considering mounting a TV above fireplace. It is way too high for the comfort of viewing and the image probably suffer due to the lower viewing angle. Then again, it is subjective.

I put mine on stand, just because I am afraid the mount wont hold.. the set is incredibly heavy...

im considering the tv stand to keep everything neater, otherwise i would mount it with a swivel arm, but i have about 6 components i need ran to the tv, i dont like exposed hanging wires.

I bought a 58 inch plasma.

Originally I planned on putting it up over the fireplace. But the wall didn't have wooden studs there.

I ended up putting it up on the wall 28 inches above floor level. I have a stand underneath it for the PS/3, receiver and center speaker. Having it at eye level is fantastic. Also the cables are not too noticeable since the TV is so close to the stand.

The wall mount I used was made by Sanus. It is very high end mount, cost about $600 bucks, but I absolutely love it. It pulls out from the wall up to 26 inches and can twist to the right or left about 45 degrees. It can pivot up and down about 10 degrees.

I say that I love it because:

1) The pivoting is very useful for our room. We have one sofa directly in front of the screen and another one at the far end of the room.

2) It is very firm and steady on the wall.

I had had the TV for the first day on its table top stand and it was pretty wobbly looking. It looked like the kind of thing a kid might knock over.

So...I vote for a wall mount. I don't think it will affect the reliability of the TV.

Also I did the installation myself. It took 2 or 3 hours but was pretty straightforward.

Only negative is the price of the wall mount. But in my case it was worth every penny. Seemed expensive when I bought it but seems reasonably priced now looking back.

I use a stand because my walls are plaster and wall mounting is not really an option. Even if I could mount it I'm not sure if I would because of the damage to the wall (which can easily be fixed) and the lack of freedom to move the tv around.

I decided to go with a TV stand because I like the overall look. Plus I didn't want any accidents with the TV falling off the wall lol.

Most walls in most houses are made from dry wall, but when you wall mount your tv you're actually screwing big 'ol screws into your wall studs.
