Default PS3 Store Trailer Quality

Now I may be going crazy, but has anyone else noticed the decrease in quality of these trailers lately? I first noticed the much smaller download size on the 1080p trailers. My first batch are around 200-250mb, now they are only being offered around 120mb. I have been noticing macro-blocking and general lousy picture quality most notable in fast motion shots. The still camera stuff still looks amazing but it is definately jarring. Has anyone else noticed this?

Did you download the "Ghost Rider" one?

It's around 224 MB and the quality is superb!

Trailers available for download are going to be obviously different from the trailers you get on BD. The quality of the trailers also depends on what scenes are there and how rapid they intercut. Trailers that have more black cards (IE text and black background) are more likely to be of lower file size.

If you want, download the same trailer from Apple's website and see if they compare. Usually they are of comparable quality.

Yea, but the Transformers and Shrek 3 ones are horrible.

Downloaded Transformers last night and noticed the blocking. It was pretty obvious and the file itself was only around 94mb. Maybe the store is experimenting with file size to decrease the amount of download time. Shame about Shrek. I was going to download that next. I thought Shrek and Transformers would be keepers. Both are Dreamworks, titles, no? Maybe the file supplied was small from the studio?

If the trailers you want is lacking, try the Apple website or Yahoo or Dave's Trailer Page.

The Transformer's second teaser trailer I got from Yahoo is 154MB. Looks great.

Yea, I usually get my trailers form Apple's site. But my PC can't playback 1080p without lagging. So if there is a trailer I want to watch, I'll download it, then convert it so the PS3 can play it. Then I upload it to the PS3. Too much of a hassle though...

Well then don't download the 1080p version!

Try out the trailer first using the standard (less than 480p) version. Then if you like that, download the 1080p version. Then convert and transfer!

they are not very good.

Im still to this day wondering about my investment in HD.

My 32 inch Toshiba with Component cables gave great pictures and for cheap.

When am I going to be blown away?

It has yet to happen

I ask the guy at Circuity city why my picture wasnt as good as theirs, he told me they had a special hookup that wasnt available for home users.

They were showing non-hd, DVD's that were stunning. I took home the upconvert and got crap.

what TV are you using, because HD is best on larger TVs. That's where you see the best improvement. I think the decrease in size might be due to using the same trailers that go on HDTV, where the bitrates aren't as high to begin w/.

Explain to me which part of your post has anything to do with BD or HD trailers available online or at the PS Store. Then we can talk.

Badly calibrated or not calibrated display are often the source of the problem.

I was simply saying that recently the trailer quality has declined because they are not allowing the appropriate bitrate for the encodes. The Full 1080 trailers do look amazing when they are encoded properly but it is likely true that they are skimping on quality these days to cut down on bandwidth usage.

Blu Ray movies look far superior to standard DVD when displayed on a capable and properly set up TV. I watched my first standard DVD in probably 2 months today after watching only Blu Ray's. I was actually shocked at how much more vibrant and detailed the picture is on Blu Ray in direct comparison. DVD is truly dead to me now.
