Default Playstation the Credit Card

"You may have seen the mailers, and it’s true. We’ve introduced our very own PlayStation credit card to offer fans a new way to show off their PlayStation pride and earn reward points towards the purchase of PlayStation and SONY products.

We’ve even sweetened the pot with a special introductory offer. Starting today until December 31, 2008, you could save $150 on the purchase of a PLAYSTATION 3 this holiday. There are a couple ways to do this. You can go to to www.sony.com/newpscard to get instant approval for your card, and an immediate $150 credit when you purchase a PS3 directly through the website.

Or you can go www.sony.com/getpscard to apply for the card and upon receipt of the card, use it at any authorized PlayStation retailer to purchase a PS3. The $150 credit will show up on your billing statement.

The holidays just got merrier. Happy shopping."

"Still looking to score a PS3 for yourself or a friend? Then take a look at this deal which can net you an 80GB PS3 for as low as $250 and a 160GB for only $350. So what's the catch you ask? You'll need to apply for a PlayStation credit card. Though it isn't that much of a catch when you consider that there is no annual fee, you'll get full Visa Platinum benefits, and double the normal warranty protection all alongside the discounted offer (and further Sony-related discounts in the future).

To avail of the deal, you can apply here and grab the discount online, or apply here and be instantly approved at any authorized Sony retailer. This offer is only valid until December 31, 2008. Just make sure you double-check those APR percentages and see to it that they meet your approval before making any decision. And, if you don't know what APR is, then you're probably not old enough for a credit card. Try again next year children!"
I thought this was some sorta mel brooks joke such as Space Balls the flame thrower...

What does everyone think about this?

You have to control yourself. Some says that when you have credits card with a good file its easier to have credits when you are buy cars or houses

Why are Sony doing this sort if card when what they should be doing is getting those PSN cards for an EU release. At least $150 off of a PS3 is a great offer.

Man, wish I could have gotten one of these before I pricematched the Walmart $100 gift card at Best Buys.

They would have been practically paying me to get the PS3.

Well yeah you build your credit score up with credit cards so you are able to get a loan for a car or house but if you have a ton of credit card debt with a good credit score then comes in your debt to income ratio which can stop you from getting loans too

But as long as you don't have a ton of credit cards or a lot opened recently, as long as you can afford to pay off what is on it, having a few credit cards is a good thing.

Length of credit history affects your FICO (longer is better)
Established on time payment history helps your FICO
Large credit available doesn't affect your FICO either way
High debt to limit % hurts your FICO (so more a new card with additional credit can lower your %)
Opening/Applying for a new credit account can hurt your FICO for a period of time
Carrying a high balance month-to-month can hurt your FICO

DTI (or Debt to Income) looks at all of your monthly debts that are reported such as credit cards, housing payment, car payments, student loans, etc... and compared that to how much you take home each month - higher is worse.

So DTI only really becomes an issue with credit cards if you are carrying a really high balance that translates to a very high minimum monthly payment (doesn't matter is it's one card or several - it's the total monthly output vs income)

already did this with Sony Card. Got a PS3 $150 for my brother and in return, he gave me the 5 free BDs.

and I would imagine that the rewards with a generic Sony Card are a little better than just Playstation Card.

Plus, you look like a tool buying dinner for a date on a Playstation Card.

Nice to see at least someone is issuing credit in these tough times and giving incentives to spend.

Actually having a large available credit does drive your score down a little bit because you can instantly go into massive debt overnight. If you have $100,000 of available credit, they assume that tommorow you can have $100,000 of debt. It's not a large knock, but it is there.
