Default Watchmen Gets Shorter

Quote:
SCI FI Wire talked to Zack and Deborah Snyder, the husband-and-wife directing/producing team of Watchmen, who said that the film's final length hasn't been approved yet, but that it is getting shorter:

"We're getting really close," producer Deborah Snyder said in a telephone interview on Nov. 18. "We're at two hours and 35 minutes."

Director Zack Snyder added: "The movie's pretty long ... compared to 300, which was an hour and 58 minutes. The director's cut [of Watchmen] is about three hours and 10 minutes long. It has even more than the theatrical version as far as the detail that gets even closer to the graphic novel."

It's always too bad they have to cut movies, I always prefer watching the extended cuts

I don't mind 3 hours. I saw Grindhouse in the theater.

Trouble is, the general public does not like 3 hour long movies they will tell you, which is just a big joke. A movie well done will appeal to the general public even 3 hours long Titanic.

Problem is that movie studios try to make these special movies like The Watchmen for everyone instead of just the fans of the genre since they want to make money. They think that the general public will not want to sit in a 3 hours long movie about comic book heroes, so they want to cut it.

Me either! I saw Grindhouse two times back to back.

But who knows the shorter version of Watchmen might be better. Longer does not always mean better. I guess we can only wait and judge after we get a chance to see both.

I would be more alarmed if they were cutting the movie up to make it family friendly!

The Hollywood idiots will never learn. Lord of the Rings, Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down, The Abyss, Hancock. etc etc.
They ought to leave em long and they would find out that there are a lot of us that want the movies longer as long as the story benefits. When they keep forcing them to shorten the movie it weakens the movie. The only reason they do this is so they can have more screenings, which doesn't matter because if word of mouth kills it, it doesn't matter how many times it shows in a day.
At this point if they shorten Watchmen too much I probably won't see it in the theater. I'll wait for the directors cut like I did with LOTR trilogy and Kingdom of Heaven. They were worth the wait.

I'm very excited about this. Didn't care for 300 too much, but I've been a fan of Watchmen since the 80s. Could be the best blu of it's time. Now let's hope the movie is good..

who cares how long the theatrical version is, you'll see it once, we'll have the blu forever and when snyder says stuff like,

"The Black Freighter version of the movie that we're working on--which has the ins and outs of the Black Freighter comic book woven through it, with an animated version of the Black Freighter--will be about three hours and 40 minutes," Zack said. "So there's a huge epic version of Watchmen, which will probably come out after the movie's theatrical release, for hardcore [fans]."

I think we can get excited.

That is fantastic news. I am anxious to see how they integrate it with the live action.

If this is true then this is the version I want to see...Watchmen is way too complex of a story to fit into 2 hrs...Its 2hr alone for the main story ...what about the background story that set the main story up..

Would anyone object to a them pulling a Kill Bill on us. Instead of chopping a 220 minute film (with the added Black Freighter part) down to a single 150 minute one, why not give us a two 110 minute chapters?
