Default Watchmen Lawsuit: Fox Has Won. (now Wolverine vs Watchmen?)

http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008...mas-bombs.html

According to the Wired Blog, Fox have won thier lawsuit over the movie rights to 'Watchmen' and could (possibly) shelve the movie indefinatley.

Ive heard that this simply a way for Fox to be able to realese the
1960's 'Batman' series on DVD. (of course Fox put out the show but Warner Bros owns the batman character)

also, Ive heard that in order to protest this some fans are going to boycott the upcomming 'Wolverine' movie if the 'Watchmen' isnt realeased by its March 9th proposed opening date.

As it stands right now, would you be willing to skip 'XMO Wolverine' and subsequent BLURAY realease until 'Watchmen' is in theaters?

I don't see the point in boycotting Wolverine because WB was too stupid to secure the release rights ahead of time. Common sense says, before you spend hundreds of millions of dollars, have contracts in hand.

In the end it's not changing anything in my life. I love Watchmen but I can also live quite well without a Watchmen movie. This is just a battle between rich execs in movie studios trying to add a few dollars in their already over size bank accounts.

If they release it, good I will go see it, if they don't I won't be losing any sleep over it. I got bigger things to worry about than that.

I highly doubt that milions of X-men fans all over the world are going to boycott this release..........people have been waiting too long for this. Boycotting Warner brothers until they re-master their Blu-ray department would be more like it!

I seriously doubt the Watchmen movie will be shelved. I am sure Fox will just get a cut of the money it makes.

My worry would be if Fox becomes the distributor, they may cut the film down even more just like they have done numerous times. You know, get in as many showings as possible to make as much cash as possible.

Thats possible too. But I think it is a little too late in the game to just shelve it away at this point. I mean Fox basically is in an almost perfect situation. They have the rights to a big budget movie that is 2 months away from release and they haven't had to put up any money to make it. And I doubt Fox wants to burn any bridges with WB on a movie that could possibly bomb so there will likely be a settlement between.

Yeah, me too. There is tons of stuff to watch. Eventually it will work itself out and then we'll still be able to see it. It will be something to look forward too.

Fox did nothing wrong. WB was attempting to screw Fox out of what they're owed.

They were well aware. Fox made them aware.

WB just ignored the issue and now it's biting them on the ass.

Preview for Watchmen looks good but since I don't really know what they're about it won't affect my decision on seeing Wolverine. Besides if these studios are stupid enough to sit on an item that has a chance to make them money then they deserve to lose money.

The only thing I really want released is the Batman (60s) TV series. I don't care who has the rights to it, just release the damn thing. I want my POW!, WHAM!, BAM! and I want it now.

I don't really think it'll get shelved. Too much hype, they probally just want a cut of the money it makes. I voted yes in haste cause now that I think about it, Wolvie is just to cool to boycott, man I hope they don't mess up either of these movies.

I want to see XMO: Wolverine, so no, I can't say that I wouldn't go for hopes they release Watchmen in March. It's going to come out sooner or later.

Hello,

So does that mean that Fow will "edit" the film in theaters, and DVD/Blu-Ray ?
Or we don't know yet ?
I really hope Warner will do everything to keep "their" film, and to distribute it on blu-ray for example ... i surely don't want Fox

Thanks

Sorry, what means BS ?

But, in the news, they said the trial, i mean the judge gave a "verdict" on December 24th, and Fox have some rights on the film ...

Thanks ^^

I voted yes. Not because I'm dying to see Watchmen or anything, Wolverine is just gonna suck. Mark my words.

(And no, just because fanboys go crazy for it doesn't mean I am wrong.)

The legal battle over "Watchmen" won't be resolving any time soon. Initially set to be brought in front of the court on January 6, 2009, the trial date for the rights to the action adventure movie has been moved back two weeks to January 20, 2009. Variety reported that the new date was set by Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen Feess on Monday, December 15.
