Default Getting rid of your DVD's already?

Well, it's a poll, I have lots of "popular" box sets that I am thinking of selling while they're worth something

Rocky boxset
Superman boxset
X-Men boxset
Spiderman I/II set
Star Wars I-VI

Then there's movies I just can't see NOT going blu-ray, Advent Children, Spirits Within, Snakes on a Plane, Memoirs of a Geisha, so I am just thinking of getting rid of everything that will most likely see itself on bluray

and of course, keeping all the anime, kids movies, teen movies, "chick flicks", animated movies, martial arts movies, foreign movies, etc that probably won't be on bluray in ages

So what are you guys doing?

You got me thinking that's for sure!! The value will for sure go down over the next year. Not to mention when I watch any regular DVDs now I want to slit my wrists

I may be placing a large lot of DVDs on ebay soon.. lol.

I sold about half my collection already....pretty much everything I hadnt watched in forever or that is coming out on blu ray....The only ones Ive kept so far are all my univeral movies such as jurassic park and back to the future sets and such.....once universal switches to the blue side, then bye bye DVD all together....I cant watch a blu ray then a standard dvd with upconversion, it just depresses me....lol

Well I have quite a few DVD's and like you said, there's the possiblity not all of them will come out on bluray. I sell the DVD's I have as they come out on bluray. That way not only do I have the best possible quality of the movie, I have the ones that didnt make the blu-cut e.g. The Monster Squad. A rare DVD to own that I really, and I stress REALLY, hope one day is restored for bluray...but most likely won't. I don't really care about the depreciated value of movies over time...money is not an option to a movie collector such as myself.

I've only replaced a few dvds so far. I pick up everything now in Blu ray and will be replacing dvds here and there, but replacing everything I have is not top priority, not with over 400 dvds.
The ones I replace with Blu ray I'll be super happy, but I am not going to complain about having the dvds I do.

I've only replaced a few titles so far (the Amazon sale helped out with that), but I'm not planning on repurchasing everything. In reality I would probably never be able to replace my entire collection anyway. A large part of my collection is in old B/W films which may never see Blu-ray. Lots of Universal and Warner classics like the Classic Monsters, gangster films, Marx Brothers, Abbott & Costello, etc. When I do repurchase something on BD, I mail the title I'm replacing off to my Dad so no waste. He's a movie buff also, but will probably never go HD. It took forever to get him to can the VCR and he held out longer than most on giving up his Betamax

I am seriously thinking about dumping many of my DVDs.

If course some of the BD releases are not great for extras but I don't think I would miss them.

MediaExchange123.com is a good place. They give you good deals and pay you quite promptly. They even give you a shipping credit if you sell enough. I sold half of my DVD collection through them.

This laptop plays both.
It also burns both.
Now, it can rip both.

Naw, I see no reason to get rid of/replace all the normal DVDs with BDs.
Ever read a book twice?

*FOR ME*, watching a movie again is about the same.
Why blow $30 on a movie that I already have?
New movies, most likely will be on BD.

YMMV.
