Disney can't make up there mind, dolby or dts? - Blu-ray Forum

They just announced the movie Rounders is coming in april and it will have a dolby TrueHD soundtrack. i thought disney was all set with DTS-MA? can a studio use 2 codecs? i thought you could only make a deal with one. i really hope they stick with DTS as its my preferd codec. i know they already used TrueHD before with National Treasure 2,and The Nightmare Before Christmas, but all of there recent releases like Prince Caspian, WALL-E, Sleeping Beauty, and now the upcoming Pinocchio all use DTS-MA. does anybody know whats going on?

I find it weird. Maybe whoever picks sound codecs has ADD.

they all sound good, at least they are not taking the warner approach and only add hd audio to every other release....Id rather have the DTS-Master....but as long as its not just a dobly 5.1, im cool

Why is it surprising? It is all about contracts, deals and ultimately for this.

If they do a good job of mixing the sound, it shouldn't matter which codec they use. Any difference that you may think you hear is because of the mix and not the codec.

I can't speak to why they use one codec or the other, but the fact is neither is their favorite. 90% of Disney's releases are LPCM lossless. The remaining 10% are DTS MA or TrueHD.

If you held a gun to my head and forced me to come up with a reason why they do this, I would speculate that LPCM is always their preferred choice because there is no licensing costs, but because LPCM takes up more disc space, they're forced to compress using DTS or Dolby when the LPCM audio file is just too large.
