Default Help with purchasing LCD

Tax time is coming, looking to spend around 1000 or less

Desires:
40"
1080p
120hz (I do alot of gaming/ps3)

I currently have a crappy noname 1080i set, its 32", it sucks majorly, my tv stand is an ikea one that by measuring, is 41 inches across, 48 inches diagonal, just over 27 inches high

based off what I've seen from some tv's a 40" should fit in this perfectly, if anyone can recommend anything with everything listed and that would fit in my stand, you would win an invisicookie, you guys helped me get my badass onkyo surround rig too

thanks in advance

nevermind, thought it was cheaper to get the model down, but its not 120hz, anyone know how big a difference it makes to the average person?

is the Samsung LNT4069FX any good? finding that for 1000, the closer to 1000 the better, dont wanna go too much over if at all, also, if i can pick it up at a store like best buy or similar, thats even better so i dont have to wait for shipping and if something goes wrong, ship back.

yeah at this rate and the fact that on amazon the only bad reviews are a few people who didnt have luck with shipping, its pretty much definite that im going with this one.

i just hope the price doesnt go up at all while i wait the next 10 days or so for my tax return to hit my bank. bahhhhh anticipation is killing me.

Thats a pretty good set. It's not 120Hz though. 120Hz refresh rates on sony start with the "W" series i believe.

Many people will look at a 120Hz set and not see the difference from a 60Hz set if the video-interpolating software on the 120Hz set is shut off. With the software on at its highest setting, it produces movie content with a "live" video motion and quality to it. Some people find this wonderful, while some find it objectionable. There's no right or wrong - only what your eyes and personal taste tell you.

The best way to really judge the differences for yourself is to actually go to a store, find someone knowledgeable there, and see a demonstration of the differences. Keep in mind that the screen's refresh rate, whether 60Hz or 120Hz, is a fixed operation of the TV, and has nothing to do with the "motion enhancing" (video interpolation) settings. You should be able to see the difference readily between a 60Hz set and 120Hz set with its motion enhancing software running.

There is a plethora of threads on the subject of 120Hz refresh rates in these forums. Do a search on "120Hz" and read as much as you can. Be informed when you go out to have a look at some TVs.

Lastly, in the case of a lot of LCDs with 120Hz refesh rates, you usually will get a few other additional TV features for your extra money spent as well.

^^ What Rob J said above. I have a 120Hz only(no frame interpolation) set and i really dont see a difference between them. 120Hz is to combat motion blur, but if you've been watching 60Hz your whole life, you probably dont even notice motion blur anyway. If you're one of those people that can notice motion blur like a sore thumb, then go 120Hz

Don't worry about how big your stand is, just worry that it will hold the weight of your new tv. Check the load limit of your stand and the weight of your tv beforehand, otherwise you could end up with an expensive pile of junk.

Just my .02

BTW for a tv go with either a samsung or sony.

according to amazon's shipping weight, this is only 6 lbs heavier than the shipping weight of my old one, should be ok.
