Default Onkyo Hts6100

I know most people here will say not to get a HTIB, but given that I'm just in college, that's really all I can afford at the moment. I have heard that if you are going to get one, Onkyo would be the ones to look at. So I was just wondering if this one would be a decent one, or if I should look at a different one (I could probably go $100 more if need be.)

Ok, so I'm assuming you mean 2 Polk Monitor 50's, which would replace the two front speakers in the 5.1 polk setup? Or would those act as the two other speakers to make it 7.1? Becuase with buying two of those, plus everything else (especially since I couldn't find the 605 anywhere, so I put in the 606.), it comes out to close to $1000, whereas my budget for this is about $800...

You can find the 605 at www.accessories4less.com for 299.99 (three year warranty) or 269.99 (1 year warranty).

and you get a free HDMI cable with it . Question: are you using a PS3 because if you are - I can save you even more money.

Yes, two Polk Monitor 50's and the center speaker (for voice matching). You could use the leftover front speakers for 7.1. I wouldn't recommend the 606 over the 605, just because the price difference. You would have the center channel from the Polk 5.1 package (you only need seven speakers, not eight.)
You could always buy another one for zone 2 if you wanted.

Ok, so in the end, how much better sound will I get getting the smaller budget home theater in your sig, compared to the HTIB? Since I would really have to stretch to get the set-up in your sig.

And since I forgot to post it in my OP, here are the specs to the one I was talking about.

getting a HTIB 90% of the time will be a waste of money. The speakers that come with the system will most likely be sub-par compared to custom separate speakers. Also HTIB lacks certain features such as HDMI audio.

Yes, if you are on an extreme budget it would get the job done. But waiting to save up enough money for a real setup would be better use of your money.

It may stretch your budget, but the results are damn well worth it, if you take your time and do it right the first time.
