Arrow Ryan Reynolds Talks Enthusiastically About Playing Deadpool

Still not quite sure what to think about this movie. I'm definitely planning on seeing it, but the jury is still out. If all else fails I get to see Jackman as Wolverine.

With X-Men Origins: Wolverine due out in theaters in only 48 more days, discussions on all things Marvel and X-Men and Wolverine have begun to flood the web. I know I'm not the only fan who's anxious to see Ryan Reynolds as the beloved sword wielding comic book character Deadpool in the movie. Reynolds was out promoting Adventureland this weekend and talked with a couple of websites, including specifically Collider and Latino Review. Given the whole Weapon XI fiasco that arose with the newest trailer (see here for more), these were some much needed updates from Reynolds his character's involvement.

Ryan Reynolds as DeadpoolReynolds says it initially "started out as a cameo and they added a little bit more… They added a bunch of mutants that the fanboys really love." After he finished shooting two other movies, he came back to add more. "We ended up going to do additional photography at the end of Wolverine because I still hadn't shot the lion's share of what I was supposed to shoot. So a lot of people thought they were adding scenes because they added more Deadpool, but it was just a function of me finishing the movie that I hadn't completed yet." I don't think anyone is going to complain about more Deadpool, but that explains some of the reshoots.

In regards to the character and the aforementioned Weapon XI confusion, Reynolds says, "I personally don't consider him as Deadpool, I consider him to be what Deadpool becomes… or the thing Deadpool came from." Meaning Wade Wilson, the mercenary who eventually becomes Deadpool. When asked about how much of his story we'll see, such as if we learn why he wears a mask (like he does in the comics), Reynolds said, "Well, it's an origin story, so again I don't consider myself playing Deadpool. I'm the thing that will eventually become Deadpool. But yea, he's scarred up. You're gonna see the scars. That's all in there."

And as for that Deadpool spin-off we've been hearing about, well, don't get your hopes until until after May 1st. "These things work pretty slowly. I've had a couple of people approach me about meetings for a Deadpool movie, but I think it's absurd to think that way until this movie comes out. And I don't even look at it like I play Deadpool in this movie. I really think I more or less play Wade Wilson, and I'm playing the creature that will eventually become Deadpool but in this movie it's his newly formed version." I know I can't wait to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine, if not just to see how awesome Reynolds is as Deadpool.

My son and I are excited about this movie. He's crazy about Deadpool and I'm all about Gambit. Plus, Wolverine, of course.

I do hope there is a movie for him.

"they added a bunch of characters the fanboys will love" and "a newly formed version" Those are scary statements.

20th Century Fox does it again. They are just a company of total and utter epic fail.

How do you manage to screw up something so simple to recreate? I mean, the character is RIGHT THERE! In the comics! Just use the source material!

Christ.

+1 Ever since X-Men: The Last Stand, I've lost all faith in FOX.

Does it really matter? Ryan Reynolds is just one step above Hayden Christensen on the acting level and he's never impressed me at all. His presence will ruin what could have been a great action/comic movie. As much as I hate to say it I'm afraid this movie is going to be a big disappointment.

I'm keeping fingers crossed, but so many of Fox's superhero flicks are atrocious.

I used to be way pumped for this movie but I don't know anymore, it's not sounding or looking so great at the moment. I wish Marvel could just get all the franchises back and make them right.

The box does say Deadpool...

I don't mind the look so much (I mean, you want him to start out in a mask or something?), but I'm really hoping those blades the action figure has are a weapon rather than something that has become a part of his body like Wolverine's adamantium claws.

Did he kill Blade Trinity? I thought he was the best part of it. Am I alone in thinking Ryan Reynolds is awesome?

I'm with you. I've always been a fan of his. While I can't remember it much, I used to love Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. Who else could have delivered the 'Cock Juggling Thunder-****' line like him?

Maybe it's the negative association with the term, but right away was anybody turned off of this article by the term "fanboys"? Why not just say, "They added a bunch of mutants that the fans really love"? Something about that term sounds so geeky; I don't follow the X-Men franchise closely at all, but just in general when people reference the genre and its fans with that term it sounds almost... insulting.

I'm with ya too. Reynolds has great potential to be a great action star.

can't wait to see him in wolverine...hopefully in a full deadpool costume!!!

It says right in the article that he’s playing the creature that becomes deadpool. That pic of the toy above is what he’s referring to…that’s not deadpool. this is deadpool:

and as far as the earlier question about being a reynolds fan....i really like him. he's hilarious and s/b able to pull off the deadpool smart @$$ part really well.

IMO, yes, he did ruin Blade Trinity. As well as Amityville Horror remake, Wating, Van Wilder; no, wait, he help there from Tara Reid; and what else has he done? In fact the only movie I've seen him in that is barely watchable is Foolproof.

Did he alone kill it? No, but he sure contributed. I'm still wondering why a roided-out Van Wilder was in that movie.

lol. Poor Hayden. He's the new Rodney Dangerfield.

I just don't care for Ryan Reynolds at all, after meeting him on the set of The Amityville Horror re-make (not a re-imagining ). He was being an arrogant d*ck, so as he walked away, I shouted: "We love you Van!" I don't think he liked that too much.
