Ryan Reynolds: Deadpool movie is a dream come true

RYAN REYNOLDS, who plays sword-spinning mercenary Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, says he learned the news of a definite spin-off for his character from internet headlines.

But Ryan - who will next be seen in new comedy The Proposal, due out in June - is very happy to be reprising the comic book role.

He told ET: "I read [news of the spin-off] online like everybody else. I just woke up and it was the headline everywhere. It was a very strange way to learn something.

"I'd by lying if I didn't say I was hoping that that would come of this film. It's somebody I've wanted to play my whole adult life so it's sort of a dream come true."

In an earlier interview he had said: "I've always loved the character. I remember reading one of the Deadpool comic books, and in the comic somebody asks Deadpool what he looks like.

"And he said he looks like a cross between a Shar-Pei and Ryan Reynolds. And I was like, I really, really wanna play this guy at some point. I thought it was pretty cool. It's a guy that knows he's in a comic book. How hard is it to shoot that properly? That's not something they put in Wolverine nor would it belong in that universe.

"This character is something I've been mentioned about for a long, long time now. And the character in the comic book - Deadpool - even mentioned me playing him. So I think it was in some weird way it was a little bit destined."

Reynolds is pictured at the top, in the centre, alongside Hugh Jackman (left) and Taylor Kitsch, who plays Gambit. A second Wolverine movie is in development along with a spin-off for Gambit.

Too cool for him. I wonder how they'll handle the 4th wall aspect.

When I first saw the title of this movie, I thought Ryan Reynolds was going to replace Clint Eastwood in The Dead Pool.

My first thought was " Hollywood needs to go to drug rehab" and "How in the hell is he or anybody else is going to replace a legend like Clint Eastwood?"

After reading the description, I was relieved because it didn't relate to Clint Eastwood's movie.

I'm curious how they are going to work this spinoff. I am not familiar with the comic, but I would assume the movie will completely leave out what happened in Wolverine.

I agree, a Deadpool spin-off would probably focus on the renegade mercenary's stint with the X team. Again, seriously doubt I will see this unless I like the previews.

Considering he's really not Weapon XI, a Deadpool spinoff will probably be a rehash of his character from Blade Trinity.

Except that he's a mercenary instead of a vampire hunter.

And he wears a mask to hide his disfigured face.

And he has super healing power.

And he's insane and aware of existing within a work of fiction, making meta references throughout the piece.

Why is nobody understanding that all of these films are going to be (at least, that is the plan) "X-Men Origins". That means X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't have to be ignored, because it would not have taken place yet.

Oh man am I glad that this is happening. Deadpool is one of my favorite comic book characters (as you can see with my icon).

I have faith that Ryan Reynolds will only do it if it is true to the character so I have almost no worries.

Right, like how he only played Wade Wilson during the part BEFORE they bastardized him into Weapon XI.

So if it happens that the film follows the events of the Wolverine picture and he is still Weapon XI, does this mean Ryan Reynolds won't play the title character?

Well after seeing what they did with the wolverine story. It will probally be pre the wolverine story. And he will have run ins with Storm, Nightcrawler, Blob, Magneto, Mister Sinister, and Apocolypse will be the Villian. And even though its a prequal he will have the powers given to him in Wolverine and he will gain all the powers of these mutants also.

That's the only way they could do this and make it work, though if it's before Wolve than Blob wouldn't yet be Blob.

i like deadpool but i havent seen Wolverine yet but Ryan reynolds looks like a good deadpool so im all for it!
