http://www.cepro.com/article/is_best...tch_guarantee/

personally i think this is a load of crap, i love best buy and have never had a problem price matching there. I buy everything there in order to get my reward zone points and most if it is price matched. I do it so much infact that the cs desk doesnt even bother check the add. Anyone else have some input?

I'm suspicious off the bat since they refer to the "US District Court, Southern District."

It's incomplete. The federal courts are divided, on one level, by states. Each state (and D.C.) have United States District Courts. Some have several. Georgia and Florida both have three, etc.

So we're missing a huge piece of the puzzle -- what freaking state was this allegedly filed in?

Best Buy taught its employees how to deny price match requests in its training facilities in New York

That is just too funny!

It just depends on how ethical the manager is, although the company hired them I don't think it should be held against Best Buy as a company.

I went to Best Buy the other day,I kid you not (I was there a few minutes before opening)And they were duing some kind of cheer or something, sounded like pep rally in there, must be something new they do maybe just at the location I was at. I've never any other store do something like this! They have always been pretty good w/ the price matching with me.

Trust me, EVERY store does this. I'm an ex employee of 2 different stores and trained at 4 others and every single one did this. They do it at closing also.

And in regards to the article, now granted I haven't worked for Best Buy for about 5 years, but at the time all the "training facilities" were at their home office headquarters in Minneapolis. I was a manager and an "anti-price matching" issue was never brought to my attention in any of the stores I worked at nor during my training in Minneapolis.

Of course things change over time and I am not speaking for every store, but I just didnt see this type of practice being done in any of the stores I was ever in.

The article also says the court "allowed him to sue." Court's don't "allow" you to sue. You can sue anyone for anything. End of story.

(Whether it's frivolous or not is a separate question).

In the stores I was in it was to talk about "shrink" issues (loss prevention/theft issues). On Sundays we would talk about what kind of new offers there were in the new ad and on Tuesday mornings we would discuss what new DVD's and CD's were coming out (so when customer's came in asking about them everybody would know what they were looking for).

They were never negative or used to tell people to do their job. They were always used to help spread info about certain topics. I was in charge of Loss Prevention in one of the stores I worked in and would run the morning meetings and I was specifically told by the store manager to never ever make them negative or to call people out for anything they did wrong.

Technically speaking, in this case, yes, the courts did have to "allow" him.

In this case, we are talking about a class action lawsuit. Before it is officialy filed against the defending party, the class action has to be approved by the courts. So, in this case, yes, the courts will have to "allow" him first.

Who said legal training is useless if you don't write the bar exams?

Oh right, topic at hand. Article makes an interesting mention of having different model numbers, and Best Buy using it as a way to get around price matching. Sounds like the managers in these stores are stupid, not fraudulent. If you don't know your product and competition enough to know it's the same product, you shouldn't be making any decisions based on other people's money. End of story.

As for the other claims, I'll believe it when I see or hear it. Which I won't. Next claim please?

No, that's not right. You file a lawsuit first, THEN you seek class certification. I've done them (and lost them ).

each store is different. My store has been good about price matching if another store has the item in stock, they call and ask. Unlike places like walmart where all you have to do is bring the add. But i got really pissed one day when i was price matching something from CC, the only reason i was getting it at BB is b/c my CC was absolute trash, the store and the people that worked there. So i refused to give them my money. But when i tried to price match and then give them a manufacture coupon they wouldnt take it. And the CS person was the biggest Beotch about it said i could only do one or the other. A policy they continue to this day, YOU GET THE MONEY BACK, why is it on or the other? anyway this particular time i made a scene and got the manager he approved it.

The courts do allow you to sue when it comes to the filing of a class action law suit, which this is. The court allowed the suit to proceed as a class action suit. Any individual can sue another individual or company, and the case has to stand in court on its own merits. However, to proceed as a class action law suit, the courts have to approve the filing for it to proceed.

Google "Best Buy class action," and you'll see it's all over the place. It's legit.

I was assuming the article meant that they had granted class certification, thus "let him file the calss action". But, you're right, either way, it's technically wrong. But who, other than both of us, really noticed?

I work in retail, and we do am and pm "huddles" that are basically use just sitting around with the employees and going over stats and general info. I did hear though that Best Buy will blast "Eye of the Tiger", and try and get everyone pumped up. Not too similar, but I always think of the scene in "Employee of the Month" where they have their morning meeting with the creepy boss.

I have been denied price match from BB, they told me they only will match stores in direct competition with them and not small market or local stores that are not franchised, so i told them that's bullsh*t and went to Future shop who will price match any store.

The only thing that Best Buy loss prevention has succeeded in doing in my book is losing me as a cash paying customer.
