Default should I get rid of titles that look bad?

I have 4-5 blu-rays that just look bad and piss me off when I watch them, I want them in my collection though, should I trade them and hope they get re-released in the future with decent image? Or just hold onto them to 'have' them.

well firstly it might help to name your titles so people can post responses accordingly. secondly, if you enjoy the movies and the only thing that you don't like is the PQ, they might be worth keeping around unless they are titles that have already been announced for a re-release. it's always a good to take a look at the reviews of blurays from this site (or others if you want more than one opinion) to help you make informed purchases, especially in regards to the technical quality of the disc.

so...what are the titles

I hope they're not Clint Eastwood titles!

Obviously you wanted them in your collection for some reason. Perhaps you should consider how important the content of those films compared to the quality.

I have Closer on Blu-ray and it looks like garbage. It bothered me a bit at first, but then I realized two things:

#1. The film itself has such strong performances that the inspiration they give me is far more powerful than the lack of PQ.

#2. Regardless of the poor quality, the Blu-ray is still a step up from the DVD... a baby step... but a step nonetheless.

So, ultimately, it comes down to a personal matter of content importance.

Whatever they are I think you should keep them until something better comes along-- isn't that what all of us have been doing for years??

I would get rid off The Stendhal Syndrome, but it is not worth to sell them sometimes.

The introduction of Blu-ray has made all of us much more critical. Some go about viewing their movies with an eye towards finding fault as opposed to enjoying the presentation, which is initially why one buys a movie anyway. Are there Blu-ray movies that leave something to be desired on a PQ/AQ level? Absolutely! That does not mean they are necessarily inferior. It only means they don't live up to the standard which we expect. And in my opinion, they can still be very enjoyable to watch regardless.

If one of those titles is the French Connection, I can understand you wanting to get rid of it, I did.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin -- The PQ could have been better, but I still love the movie!

i assume you already know that was due to the way it was filmed, not the mastering process

yeah, some of the titles I am referring to are, Amadeus, Gangs of New York, the ones that use DNR, then others you can see they put no effort into making the blu-ray look great, and are just a little better than DVD, like Sideways, the worst ones distract from the movie experience, like there is a layer of annoyance between me and the movie, hahaha

well gangs and amadeus are likely not getting a rerelease any time soon. maybe several years down the line, but the 2 disc dvd which the blu stems from came with enough special features that there wouldn't be much to add if another edition came out. they could always rerelease it with a better transfer ala fifth element but a lot of people find it satisfactory if not great already.

if you really like the movies, hold on to 'em clint.

Although I certainly think there are better transfers out there than Amadeus, I don't think anyone could view this release as being "bad". You obviously have a more critical eye than I. I bought this movie knowing full-well that it's transfer was less than stellar (and a disappointment for such a great film), but the film far outweighs any disturbances of PQ that are pointed out. I want to almost say that I feel sad for you, for not being able to enjoy a film for what it's worth.

Selling them isn't going to get you much. I would keep them, at least until something better comes out.

And next time, rent the titles first.

I regret purchasing Commando on BD. It by far has the worst PQ out of any I saw.

Yesterday i went to Rasputin Records and traded Silent Hill,Nacho Libra,Righteous Kill and a Blu Ray Porno. All for Silence of the Lambs the porno costed me over 50 dollars but after 5min it grossed me out to good of PQ they only gave me 1 dollar for the porno which by far was the most expensive. O ya i thru in Dooms Day all for Silence so get ripped off like me for movies you dont watch for one you will. Are keep them and show off when friends and familly come over how big your collection is
