Default Why do i have to turn my tv off and on again for it to recognise a HDMI signal from m

I have my PS3 hooked up to my Sharp LCD tv via a HDMI cable. It seems that now, I have to turn my tv off and back on for it to recognise the signal.

Even changing the input from the remote over to my cable box (also connected via HDMI incidentally) and back to the PS3 input will result in a black screen. Turning the tv off and back on will bring back the signal.

Any ideas?

The same thing happens to me on some occasions. I've got a Hitachi 32" LCD TV. I have no idea what's going on.

i wonder if it's a quirk of the last firmware update?

I have the same setup as you; Sometimes the tv might tell me an HDMI isn't connected when I turn it on but it gets connected again within a few seconds without turning the tv on and off.

flip thru the inputs again, that usually works.

maybe you need some newer 1.3a certified cat 2 cables from monoprice.com

I thought this had to do with my Verizon FiOS service. My new Sammy has been doing this too. Sometimes it will lose signal while I'm watching from my STB.

If power cycling the TV fixes it and power cycling the PS3 doesn't, that really points to it being a problem with the TV, not the PS3.

You should check with your TV manufacturer to see if there are any firmware updates available for it and/or if this is a known problem.

I sometimes have this issue as well. I to have an Hitachi TV but it's a Plazma TV. I will turn to a different input, BUT I just wait. Usually what is happeneing is the signal isn't fast enough to be recognized by the TV then it turns on. It always happened when I go to watch Blu's on my PS3, or when we go to play the Wii. I just wait a few seconds for the TV to recognize "hey I have an input change ok lets adjust" I to use to turn everything off then back on, but I have learned to just be paitent for a few seconds.

I have the same problem every 1 out of 1000 (a made up number, but it's rare) times that I turn my TV/Receiver/PS3 on. It's just the handshake didn't quite work once in a blue moon. I've also had it turn odd colours like a pink shift before. A simple turn off and turn back on of everything solves both of them. I've never had it be every single time that I turn it on, and points to something defective. Do a google search on the TV and see if it is a known problem and if there is a way to correct it.

sounds like your having HDCP handshaking issues with the TV. check with the maker to see if there is a firmware and how to install it. also, did this always happen with your ps3 and cable box or did this just start? if this is something that just started, did you change cables on both? also, try switching inputs for the cable box and the ps3 in your TV see what happens then. also, does it happen when there is just on of them at a time plugged into the tv? best of luck!

I have the same problem sometimes but it also happens on my Pioneer upscalling dvd player. I believe it is a TV issue rather than a DVD player or the PS3.

i had similar problem with the ATI graphics card in my HTPC, it would lose it's EDID handshake whenever the TV switched inputs thanks to ATI's poorly written drivers. fortunately being a PC i could manage a workaround by writing a batch file that would reset the resolution thereby kickstarting the EDID signal again and mapping it to a hotkey.

since a batch file is not an option for you, something like a HDMI repeater may keep an EDID handshake alive.

Nope. Just a normal flat-panel.

I think some of the other posters have described the problem spot-on; once out of every 100 or 1000 times, the screen just remains blank. I've suspected a hardware problem before, but from the sounds of it, it must be a hand-shake issue between the TV and PS3. Maybe I'll try the things mentioned here.

Thanks y'all.
