Hey folks,

In about an hour (4PM BST) PSN will undergo essential maintenance.

If you are signed in to PSN before the maintenance commences, you should not experience any problem. If you attempt to sign in during the maintenance, your sign in may be denied. Account Management and the PlayStation Store may also be temporarily unavailable. Online Gaming should not be interrupted, provided that you are signed in to PSN.

We anticipate that this maintenance will finish at 20:30 BST - however the effects on PSN Sign-ins should only last until 18:30 BST.

It's currently 17:36 BST so sign-ins should work in less than an hour from now.

I think the question is, will whatever changes are made affect us the end-user or is it more behind the scenes changes that we may not take much notice of.

All they're sharing right now is that there's essential maintenance. They've never said "we're working on such and such in preparation for future PSN functionality" in the past.

The maintenance has been going on since 12:00pm EST for me.

Hmmm...ingame voice chat maybe, although that would require a firmware update and this isn't the right time or day to do it. A bit of a long shot if you ask me, so I guess its just routine maintence.
