Default Tom Rothman Lie About the Wolverine Leak's Running Time

Here's an article:

http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/04/...-running-time/

Here's another quote:

Here's the funny part though. Remember when Tom Rothman swore up and down that the final version of the film would be ten minutes longer? Apparently that was a lie. The bootleg apparently ran 107 minutes with credits. The official running time listed in the AMC and Arclight websites lists the film as running... drum roll... 107 minutes. While Tom Rothman had no choice but to convince moviegoers that the free version would be vastly different from the completed picture, it'll be interesting to see the reaction should that not turn out to be the case. Because, at this point, it would seem to not be the case. Aside from unfinished effects work and several minutes of extra Ryan Reynolds Deadpool footage that apparently comprised the majority of the reshoots (due to an alleged scheduling conflict), it's becoming increasingly likely that the bootleg that went out three weeks ago was in fact a rough version of the final film. And, judging by comments that have been posted at my various outlets and elsewhere, that's may be a problem. Boy, it's a good thing that Fox now has a bullet-proof excuse should the film under perform next month.

Seriously, this guy need to be fired. No doubt he lied about this to salvage the reputation of the movie(what's left of it) due to the negative buzz so far. No wonder most Fox's movies is mediocre. Anybody else about this?

it didn't say he lied. it said that he MAY have. we don't know yet. so as of right it's all rumored bullcrap. let's wait until the actual movie is out before we start gathering an angry mob with torches and pitchforks.

Man, that's disappointing. I saw the workprint version and it really could have used some more scenes in the beginning,
[Show spoiler] I wanted a bit more backstory on some of the characters on Stryker's team especially more Deadpool considering he only has like one scene pretty much

Still seeing it, it was good and I want to see the final product with the effects

I think its one of the few appropriate times in order to lie. Its just one way of fighting movie piracy.

I think a more effective way would be to be honest and use guilt to try to motivate people who downloaded who were now planning on not going to the theatre. All movies are pirated on the internet eventually, and all comic book movies have to deal with fanboys being pissed off. The only difference here is that this one hit long before official release and fanboys are especially mad because of massive bungling of a character many on the Internet consider to be amazing in the source material.

Or maybe I just feel the way I do because I'm against flat lies all around. I can't stand such bold-faced lies, and I can't stand people who think it is ok to lie like that, regardless of the reason.

And it's not "fighting piracy". You cannot fight it. You can try to prevent it for as long as possible, you can try to damage control it once it happens, but you cannot fight it.

I disagree. I'd say it's only about 15~20 minutes too long. Could've been a strong story if they had maintained focus better and held to basic rules of storytelling. However, at the same time, they easily could've told a 2 hour story well if the folks who came up with the story knew what they were doing.

If it is true than the opinion of those that watched the leak might be a little more valid.

So I hope it's not.

Sounds to me like you have made your mind up, so why are you so angry? Just skip Wolverine and go see 17 Again or Hannah Montana.

How about if we agree that there isn't any way to convince someone to see this movie if they already viewed it illegally?

no one seems to get that there is no proof that tom actually lied. all we have is hearsay and rumors. that's it. again, we should try and not pass total judgment until the movie is released.

How long it is, or isn't - what the f---k ever! I was thinking it'd be a bit over 90 minutes and if this "leaked running time" story is true, then that's what I thought it was, time wise anyway. Really, everyone Grow The HELL UP. Gesh.

+Infinity. Regardless if the guy lied or not, nothing can save this cesspool of a movie. It's Daredevil and Elektra bad.

Huh?

Plenty of people who saw it illegally are still planning on seeing it in the theatre. Even some people who were less than satisfied with the workprint will be seeing it in the theatre regardless, especially with the amazing deals Best Buy put out for e-cash. Why do so many of you people not understand the idea that there are people in this world who are willing to pay money for the things they've illegally downloaded? Just because a person downloads a movie doesn't mean they won't pay to see it in the theatre or grab it on home video, just because a person downloads a mp3 doesn't mean they won't buy the CD. Don't automatically assume the worst in people.

Actually, the director's cut of Daredevil holds up rather well apparently although I can't say for certain I've ever seen the theatrical cut. Can't speak for Elektra, but Daredevil catches more shit than it deserves.

If you're going to compare it to other films, I think the likes of X-men Last Stand, Spider-man 3, and Superman Returns are this one's peers. If only for the action I can say with confidence that this one will stand the test of time better than Elektra.

Maybe that's how they should get the illegal downloaders in the theatres. Don't even try to make it seem like the movie is better in the theatres, but accentuate how much more engrossing the action will be:

"You haven't really seen this movie until you've seen the fully completed special effects in the film. You will be absolutely floored by how great this stuff looks instead of bored to tears by ugly polygons and incomplete messes."
