Default Overlord

The review at gamespot said you need to micromanage a lot during combat. But do you have to micromanage or could you just leave it to the AI if you play on an easier difficulty level?

Do you think Overlord II will make Overlord I not worth playing anymore? II is coming in June.

I was also wondering, can you pause during combat like you can in Baldur's Gate?

Micromanaging.. hmm well not really, its pretty straight foward.

Try the demo on the psn store that should get you a good feel for the game.

One of the most annoying demos I've ever played...this sold well enough for a sequel?

Have you played the demo? I've noticed a lot of people mentioning Overlord the past week (due to this sale) and a lot of people are under the wrong impression about what the game is about. Even at $10 I'd play the demo first. Remember that 3 $10 games adds up to one really good $30 game. I have a feeling a lot of people will be buying this game b/c of the price and then realize it is not for them.

Edit: I am honestly surprised this game did well enough for a sequel too.

Edit 2: This game is NOTHING like Baldur's Gate.

I sorta have to micro manage a little bit, but its not that bad. It was a fairly easy game and i thought it was pretty enjoyable. Nothing amazing, but not bad.

I'm mostly interested due to the RPG theme and getting to play a bad guy. I don't know any other games for PS3 that have both elements.

Its not really too much of an rpg. Its more a hack n slash/rpg mix. But you can be a bad guy and kill villagers, take stuff from them or what ever. You dont even level up or anythikng. you just find power ups adventuring out in the wild.

Yeah, it really isn't an RPG like most people think. I wouldn't really call it a hack and slash really either. I highly recommend you download the demo tonight and play it before you decide to buy it. I don't think this would make a good "Blind buy" for most ppl.

couple more questions...

1. Do you need to press buttons a lot to play (when playing on easy)?

2. Does this have a good storyline like RPGs do?

Whoah hold on.

Overlord is not an RPG. It does not pretend to be an RPG.

I repeat. It. Is. Not. An. RPG.

Overlord bears more resemblance to a real time strategy game than it does an RPG. There are some mild dungeon crawling and puzzle solving aspects, but by and large that's about as far as the resemblance goes to RPGs.

I would classify the gameplay as a 3D third person strategy action game.

The storyline is OK - amusing, with some occasionally inspired voice acting but if you're looking for Shakespeare, these are not the minions you are looking for.

As for micromanagement, that's really not terribly necessary in most situations on anything but the hardest difficulty.

And theres not really a lot of buttong mashing either. Most of the work is done by commanding your minions with the sticks, not the buttons, and they autoattack when in range. Or you can press one button, and they all run in that direction and do their thing, but they are prone to an easy death that way.

1. No

2. The game is not really story driven like an RPG either. Once again, this game is not an RPG and not like an RPG. The only thing resembling an RPG about this game is that the subject matter is medieval fantasy which is a common theme of western RPGs.

I grew tired of Overlord after about an hour; storyline was too linear, and environment wasn't interactive enough. Just not my type of game.

There was a game called Dungeon Keeper (and it's sequal) that was themed around being evil, but I don't know if either of those ever made it outside of the pc platform.

I assume you've played Oblivion? Not only is it open-ended, but you get to truly be as bad a guy as you like. Ignore the main questline and steal, kill... and get paid for it if you so choose. You get to be evil within a gaming environment that frowns upon it, as opposed to a game where everyone who plays is a "bad" guy by design.

It's a command your minions to die for you game.

It's great fun for me, but ya, I agree, check it out first.
