So i understand that the resolution of a 1080i TV/computer monitor is 1920x1080 but here is my question. I am a computer guy and if you have a 15" monitor with 1440x900 and a 19" monitor with 1440x900 I think the smaller one looks a little better (both are native resolutions).
So the question is is there a perfect size for a 1080i TV or are they kinda the same. It just seems that the TVs keep getting larger but the resolution does not get any bigger. Oh and I just got Blu Ray set up in my computer and bought my first movie and just finished watching it. It was great and I only have a 23" monitor. |

It all has to do with viewing distances ceteris paribus (that is to say that if all things are equal: eg contrast, resolution, viewing conditions [distance, light conditions] etc, then the only difference will be from the relative size of the screen). If you look in the display theory subforum here you'll find plenty of information on this.

I've got a small living room, so a 32" TV works fine for me. My parents have a 42" and it looks smashing. Between the two, I notice that the image usually looks sharper on the 32", but on the 42" the image appears less grainy, and smaller details are easier to pick out. Some discs with dark scenes or shoddy transfers have issues (like banding, aliasing, grain galore) that appears more frequently on the 42" than on the 32".
I'd put my vote in for 40" or higher, just because it looks sharp with less grain. But if you look closely enough, the flaws of a Blu-Ray disc become more apparent on bigger screens. |
