Want to upgrade my television to a 50" or better 1080p model, but also on a budget.Don't want to spend over $1500. Currently watching blu-rays on 42" 720p/1080i model with my ps3.Am I missing much? Without all the technical stuff, help me out. Please

I have a Panasonic 42" 720p/1080i plasma and I love it. If I were to get another 42" I wouldn't necessarily get a 1080p set, but at 50" + I definately would as I think it makes a substantial distance. My viewing distance is about 8', so if you have a similar viewing distance than I'd say go for the 1080p.

I still own a 50" Pioneer Elite from 2005.
It maxes out at 1080i but damn it still looks beautiful while playing BD movies. I had mine ISF calibrated just recently because I hope this TV can tide me over til 2010 where I'll be in the market for a new TV. 1080i isn't bad, but if you want to pump out a few more months out of that TV get it calibrated! |

the issue is not the 1080i as much as the resolution is not 1080 but around 720, that means that the PS3 takes the 1080p and changes it to 1080i and then the TV takes that 1080i and changes it to the resolution of the set (many are 768 x 1366) . If you have the $ and can afford it, then go for it. you will appreciate the larger screen and the more accurate picture. If it is a bit tight save a bit more and wait a bit (to get the TV you want)
