Default TV on Center speaker

Hey all!

I am looking at buying a Pioneer Kuro(111FD) but the problem I have is I don't want to mount it on the wall. The other problem I have is I don't have a place to put the center speaker except for in front of the tv.

My current setup works fine because there is enough room to put the speaker there but on the KURO I think the image will be blocked by the speaker.

Is it ok to put the TV ON the speaker?

It comes with a stand(except for the monitor series 500M or 600M), so you should be fine.

I don't think it's a good idea to put your TV on the speaker. I know some people do it sometimes, but they're often using a lighter-weight LCD TV. Your Kuro plasma will be quite heavy. Probably 100+ lbs. You may have to mount either the TV or the speaker on the wall. What size TV are you getting, and what center speaker do you have?

I am getting the 50" tv - http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/09...a-to-the-test/

I have this center speaker:

If you check my gallery you can see how large the speaker is against my 42" tv that I currently have.

You may wish to consider using a center channel speaker stand for your center channel speaker. I am not suggesting that you purchase any of these from Adona Corporation (there are other makers as well), but they are available in different sizes and colors. Here is a link and below are some photos:

At 88 lbs, it's not as heavy as I expected, but I would still recommend against putting it on your speaker. If you don't want to put the TV on the wall, then you could either use a center speaker stand, as recommended above, or you could mount the speaker on the wall above the TV. Something like this may work for you. The size and weight of your speaker are within the limits for it.

I'm in favor of the stands as above
the TV would be top heavy
and there are reports of serious injury
due to falling TV's
especially if the speaker is on carpet

Umm youre gonna have to buh-bye to your center speaker if you put the 111 on it. I'd suggest goin with fireman325 suggested.

Then there are these [from sam walton's store] where you can put up ur center speaker on the top shelf...

You can always build a shelf over your center speaker with 3/4 inch MDF and paint it to match your cabinet.

Yeah it is a big decision.

I know this is only temporary until I get a house. I like those stands but I see they can be quite pricey.

My ex-gf used to have one like that and it was really nice.

I will think about it.

Thanks guys.
