Default Calibration mic setup?

I've been experimenting with the calibration tool on my receiver. My first instinct was to position the mic (shape of a coin) facing the frontstage, but last night it dawned on me that maybe I should have it facing up.

What are you thoughts? Should it be facing the frontstage or up?
or Does it matter?

Thanks.

the microphone should be facing towards the ceiling, and not directly at the speakers.

got rice,

Yes, set the mic facing up. This is so that the mic does not "favor" any given speaker in your theater area. You will get the most accurate results from your receiver's auto-calibration this way.

Do try to set up the mic about the height of your ears for the best possible result.

I see you are probably enjoying your SC-07 as much as I'm enjoying my SC-05. You may still want to play with some of the tonal adjustments after MCACC is finished.

Thanks guys for your response. I had all the presets with the mic facing forward. So I went back last night, and readjusted the four presets I had and saved one with the mic facing forward to see if I could hear a difference.

For me I did notice a difference, the overall qualtiy is more balanced. Although the difference is minimal, the biggest diffence is there is more emphasis on the frontstage. I've learned that even the smallest change such as the position of the mic can make a difference.

Another easy and cheap solution is to get a small camera tripod. You can get them on Amazon for around $5. (I already had one for my camera.) I actually wrap that around a broom handle at the desired height and placement to get my 8 readings.

a tripod definitely would have helped, but I had to use a short broom handle and tape the mic on. haha.

Resorted to my Macgyver resolve.

That's an awesome idea! I set a construction level over the edge of my couch and laid the mic on top of the level, essentially exactly where my head would be. I'll use my tripod next time around. The mic would sit nicely on the flat camera-mount.
