Wow wow, excellent, a market who grows at last to the state of the ancient formats... That's pretty good for the Blu-Ray but also for the HD-DVD... :?

As well as making more hit films, says Mr Arnold, the best thing the entertainment industry can do about slowing DVD sales is to agree on a new improved format. Today the “Blu-ray” disc, backed by Sony and others, is fighting a rival format, the “HD-DVD”, backed by another consortium. A new format offers the best chance of revving up sales. But consumers will upgrade in a few years' time only if the electronics and entertainment industries agree on a single technology standard.
Exactly why I have been confident in BDs success from the beginning. Studios will most certainly offer exclusives with BD that the DVD counterpart cannot offer. Studios can also offer select movies on BD and not even bother to release them on DVD. They won't do this in the beginning of course but eventually they will. Studios did this very thing with VHS in order to push the sale of DVD. Rest assured, BD will become huge. Not as quickly as DVD probably but it will happen. IMO the writing is on the wall.
