Talking Best Buy Calibration

I have owned a Kuro Elite for 6 months now and the picture looks great. I read the CNET review and use their settings and use the TV in Pure mode.

I was in BB yesterday and they had a set up of calibrated and non-calibrated tvs. The non-calibrated TV looked like all the bright TVs that are on display. The calibrated TV looked like the Kuro although not as good. I told the salesperson that most people would prefer the bright picture of the non-calibrated TV over the calibrated TV picture although I thought the calibrated TV would be the best in a dark room.

The salesperson said the calibration will take 1 to 2 hours and will cost $300.

The problem is that I have read negative posts about BB calibrations on another web-site. Isn't there a set procedure for calibration done using electronic equipment? If the calibrator went by the manual shouldn't all the calibrations be the same? BB calibrators are certified. I don't see the problem. Does anyone have experience with this?

The Kuro's picture is so good now that I am wondering if it needs a calibration. I haven't see a better picture on any TV, yet other posters say the picture is much better calibrated. Other than possibly a slight improvement in shadow detail I really don't see much room for improvement.
