Default Jay-Z Confirms Split With Def Jam

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009...ple-Jay-Z.html

NEW YORK (AP) -- There will be no encore for Jay-Z and Def Jam.

The rapper confirms reports that he has left the record company where he made most of his biggest hits and went from artist to president, and back to artist again.

In an interview with the Web site RapRadar.com, he thanks the label's executives and calls his time at Def Jam ''a unique and fulfilling experience.''

Last year, Jay-Z and Live Nation struck a wide-ranging deal that included touring, publishing and albums. Jay-Z had owed Def Jam one more record. A representative for Jay-Z declined to elaborate on his comments.

lol. I was thinking the same thing. Not sure who'd be better off in the split, but her performance in Austin Powers could drive any many to insanity.

Jay should have done this a long, long time ago in an era far, far away. Now he's a 40+ year old rapper that is losing touch with the new generation. I honestly think his time is up.

he hsnt lost touch.....i hope he doesnt try to appeal to the younger crowd (the current 18 year olds)

im 29 and have listened to jay from the get go
whats frustrating is the commercial songs on the albums

you can make a commercial song and still have it not sound like the rest of the commercial songs
see ready to die/it was written

either way ill download anything and never buy a cd like ive been doing for 9+ years now

he cant appeal to the younger crowd....I know it sounds crazy, but we're coming to a point where there's a whole generation of young cats coming up that dont even know who Jay Z is, or how much he's impacted the genre at least.

but as far as commercial songs...dude, Jay has been making those type of songs since Vol.1. He kinda just follows whatevers poppin at the time and puts his own stamp on it. He's notorious for that shit. To fault him now for that would be asanine.
