Default Another Fletch movie in the works?

Link

Chase is also considering a new script for the Weinstein Co. that would see him reprise his investigative reporter Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher. The current screenplay has Fletch passing the baton to his journalist nephew as the semi-retired uncle advises him on his stories.

Sounds like they're going the Ghostbusters 3 approach with the "passing the baton" thing. The first Fletch is one of my favorite movies, so I'd love to see another one. I'd prefer to see Chevy be the main focus, but if they have to put his nephew in the film I hope they consider someone like Ryan Reynolds to play the part. He plays a great smartass just like Chevy.

They have talked about this off and on for a few years now. I think at one time Kevin Smith was in the talks to direct and Zach Braff was going to be Fletch, but I think that was some time ago.

Jason Lee was attached when Kevin Smith was. Being a huge Kevin Smith fan, I would have loved to have seen that happen.

But the thought of Zach Braff playing Fletch makes me want to hurl.

Me, too. That would be a travesty in every essence of the word.

New Fletch? Sign me up! Who would be the best actor for Fletch out of today's actors, assuming Chase doesn't do it? I can't even really envision anyone other than Chase, so it'd be interesting to see what people think.

What about John Krasinski from The Office? I've always thought that he'd make a great Fletch. He's got the deadpan-straight guy down solid.

Why does this have to be passed on? Can't it just be fletch the one and only?

I'd have to say I agree! If they have to "pass the torch" so to speak, I'll bet John K would be a great Fletch.

If you can't tell from my name and avatar I would love to see another Fletch movie! Chase isn't that old yet that he couldn't make another one of these, so I hope passing the mantle on isn't the focus if it comes to pass. If they had to though to get one made I agree that John K would be a pretty good choice. He's got the right amount of deadpan and smartass to pull it off.

I can't see him doing the characters though.

Not a bad point. Hard to say for sure since he's basically been Jim on the office, and Jim in the 1930's with a leather football helmet in Leatherheads. Haven't seen him show any range yet but he is fairly new to the game.

Originally in the 90's; Kevin Smith was going to make it and Jason Lee was going to be Fletch; the title was Fletch Won. Then a few years back, probably 2004 - 2006; it was stated that Bill Lawrence was on board for directing and Zach Braff was going to star was Fletch. No indiciation if it was still Fletch Won.

Jason Lee seems to be looking for a job right now, maybe he can get Smith interested in the adaption of Fletch Won again.
