Universal Studios Fletch (1985)

I've seen the review of Fletch on the site but wanted to get some opinions on the title from other users. So what do you think? I'm considering picking this one up. I love Fletch. Definitely one that I'll rewatch.

I love this movie, but don't have it in any format. I'll definately buy it, but I'll wait until the price drops. The PQ/AQ review of it doesn't justify the price right now. I'd say you could pick this up for $10 in a few weeks.

It's NOT a great blu-ray by any stretch. But it's a bit of an upgrade over the last DVD and it's a great movie.

$9.99 at Amazon for the best version of Fletch you can buy (and likely the best we'll have for a looooooong time).

No brainer.

Fletch looks excellent on blu ray. I got it at Best Buy for like 10 bucks months ago.

Me too, any news out there, why can't they just do a Fletch/Fletch Lives combo BD?

I could see Shout Factory doing Fletch Lives one of these days. It's not a high-priority title for Universal but it's got its fans.

If I remember rightly, I preferred Fletch Lives to Fletch. Ive got the double pack on DVD and that will probably do me really.

I still have to get this on Blu, the DVD was horrendous. It couldn't be any worse.

Every movie has its fans. I wouldn't say Fletch Lives has any real fanbase to speak of. If I had to guess I'd say its probably pretty far down the list of anyone (Universal, Shout etc.) who could possibly release it.

Short of Universal licensing titles bargain-bin style to a company like Mill Creek or Image I don't see this hitting Blu any time soon. If it was a horror film I could see them lumping in with the first film in a double feature for Halloween (see Tremors and Chucky) but it's not a horror film. It's an unpopular, forgotten and poorly-received comedy.

It's amazing to me Ghostbusters 2 has yet to see a blu ray release, and that has to have more fans than Fletch Lives.

If the market for secondary catalog titles was healthier, I could see Universal releasing Fletch Lives. As it stands now, only someone licensing it could save it now for Blu-ray.

The best buy for this title might be at Target. Uncle Buck and Fletch double bill for $9.99.

As for Shout and lower-tier Universal titles, they did Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie and are doing The Shadow (after Universal released the latter bare-bones for a high price). I could definitely see them doing titles like Fletch Lives (possibly as a double feature with another 1980's/1990's comedy, two ideal pairings with it would be Going Berserk and Opportunity Knocks).

Er, you do realize MST3K is a pretty big DVD seller for Shout? They release a couple of box sets a year, so it is absolutely no surprise they used their Universal deal to release the movie on Blu-ray!

Fingers crossed for Fletch Lives! Even if they have to release it as a double feature along with Fletch (which I already own), I'd buy it.
