My setup is PS3(for blu-ray), connected to Onkyo HT-S6100 with a HDMI 1.3a cable.
My issue is I don't get audio from the rear speakers. My PS3 is set to output any type of audio available. And my receiver is set to PCM. When I press select on my ps3 controller, the top info bar only says 5.1 The blu-ray movies I have tested it with state only 5.1 DTS as well though. Is there a way to have the audio played 7.1 though? Is it possible to have the receiver emulate the rear audio or something? |

The 2 blu-rays that I have currently are Tropic Thunder(5.1), and X-men 3(6.1)
When pushing the select button while playing x-men 3, it does say 6.1, but no audio from rear speakers still. |

Ahh.. that is kind of lame.. Is 7.1 going to be more common with newer movies?

Few here and there but not many. If you want to sample the 7.1 on bds check out Nightmare before christmas or Pan's Labyrinth, they sound amazing. None the less thought you have a great setup, I have the HT-S7100 which is pretty much the same. DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD sound great even in 5.1.

go into your setup menu for speakers and make sure it shows seven speakers. if it only shows 5.1 speakers then you should run your speaker calibration program to determine why it didn't see the back speakers. also on the ps3 you should use HDMI/auto for audio and make sure under it you check everything under it that it gives you i.e. DTS, DD, DTHD, LPCM 7.1, if any of those pop up after you select the auto then check them. it should then send out 5, 6 or 7.1 based on what is being played. when you turn on the ps3 it should be sending out 7.1 when sitting at the desktop after logging in. your receiver listening mode should be toggled through until you find "multichannel" so go to the listening mode button on the remote and scroll until you see "multichannel" once there, hit the display button on your remote, and your receiver should say "multi PCM 7.1 48khz" or something to that effect after depressing the "display" button a couple of seconds after showing that info, it will go back to saying "multichannel"
hope this helps, keep us posted on what you find and i hope this or what you got /get from someone else helps. |
