Unhappy X-Men Trilogy with DTS-HD HR instead of MA

I just got my copy of the X-Men Trilogy here in the Netherlands for only 39.99 euros (about $53). It is six discs in one pack, with a separate plastic cover that slides over the pack to keep it together. And it seems to be region free as the back shows the icons ABC.

I watched the first movie today, and it looks fantastic. The only thing I noticed that is kind of worrying is that my PS3 says that the audio is DTS-HD HR and not DTS-HD MA. And its bitrate is 'only' 3.0Mb. The same goes for X-2 and The Last Stand.

So it seems we don't get any uncompressed sound with this X-Men Trilogy. That is really a shame!! Why Fox, Why????

Well my copy of the trilogy will be on it's way sometime this week so it'll be annoying if the same thing applies to the UK release also. Looks like I'd better not throw out my copy of Last Stand I bought previously as that has 6.1 DTS HD MA.

this thread should be "flagged" so people know you aren't referring to the US release (even if the audio is the same). just a suggestion

This very well could just be limited to the Netherlands. I know Fox released the Planet of The Apes Quintology with only DTS-HD HR there, but DTS-HD MA everywhere else. Not sure the reasoning why...

i've heard that the uk version and the us version gets hd ma while the euro countries
(France,Spain, the Netherlands,italy...) get hr because of the additional languages tracks there isn't room for dts hd ma.
they've done the same with quantum of solace, the box says hd ma but it is really dts hr

It is indeed a combined Dutch/French/Italian release. This is very annoying. The back only shows DTS HD, without HR or MA. If I had known, I would have ordered the UK release. As the package is open now, I cannot return it.

@robertc88: my Blu-Ray player is a PS3 which showed the DTS-HD HR which goes as MPCM to my receiver.

(Sorry for posting in the wrong forums, I wasn't aware there were separate forums for US and EU releases).

It's true. In Europe there are 2 versions. The UK/Scandinavia/Germany get a DTS HD MA, while all other countries get a DTS Hi Res track (@ 3mbps). This seems to be a trend with cheapy Fox.

I have made a list with all known affected releases vs countries. Planet of the Apes is not only affected in the Netherlands, but in f.e. France too. More titles to come.

And on top of this, an order I had for this with a online shop that I cancelled a couple of days ago (as it would be cheaper in a local shop) seems now to have been shipped after all. So now, I have to return that order which will cost me some shipping costs.

And then to know that my first order for this was with amazon.co.uk, but seeing that it was much more expensive there than getting it in my own country, I cancelled that one as well If only I hadn't been looking for the best bargain, I would have gotten the UK version with DTS-HD MA

pssst You can always sell your Dutch copy, and keep/buy the UK version. Check Play.com for example.

Damn, I almost bought it because of that price.
Now I see why it's not like 20-30 Euros per film as usual.
Because it's a "cheap" release!

Did you see 'The Godfather' in The Netherlands? It's like 80-90 EUROS!
I saw it like a week or two ago, and I can still not get over it...
