When I do an audio pass through on my receiver to watch blu-rays Or DVD's through the tv speakers only meaning the reciever must be on to watch a movie and all audio and video passes through it but I have the external speakers muted and the tv speakers on with my ps3 slim which is only connected through HDMI. The problem is I get no sound that seems wouldve came out of the center channel. This is very weird and I don't understand what's going on. Now what's weirder when I set it to bitstream it'll work fine then. The reason why this is weird is it doesn't work with linear PCM but with bitstream it will when my tv or receiver can't bitstream lossless audio but it's giving the right sound off through the tv speakers when bitstream is used. Can someone please check if when they audio pass through using tv speakers what happens. This only happens with the ps3 playing blu-rays or DVD's nothing else and that includes movies off psn...Here's why it's confusing I would think it was the receiver but like I said all other components work normally with the receiver.

Update: just checked the original ps3 same thing it must be the way the system processes multi channel audio. The whole bitstream is still confusing with the lossless audio the ps3 must know to only let lossy go through to the receiver.

Dialogue is predominantly in the center channel. If you pass-through the receiver to the stereo speakers on the television, you will only get the front left and front right audio unless you change the audio output settings on the ps3 to recognize the 2 speakers instead of multichannel. Then it will downconvert for 2-channels which is what the television is doing when you set the slim to bitstream, it will downconvert the legacy audio.

If the HDMI jack on your TV has red and white analog inputs then there is an easier solution.
Connect the PS3 Slim's multi AV out to the back and then connect the red & white analogs to the TV. In the Sound Settings of the XMB turn on Multi-Audio Out. The PS3 will send the proper lossless audio to the reciever and a proper 2 channel signal over the red & white analog outs. |

I understand but like I said all other components work fine and they are all set to multi out including the 360, and when you go into sub menu and select bitstream it works through the tv speakers, and that's multi out also. Whatever now that I know it's not defective but obviously the ps3 decodes differently then others while processing linear PCM, or maybe this is what happens with linear PCM multi out.
