Default NO Audio while Playing Cd's (??)

Ok, color me dumb but for some reason, i'm getting absolutely No Audio while trying to play a CD. I haven't played a CD in I-Dont-Know-When (many many months ago, I think), and since my Panny BD-35 plays BR's & DVD's no problem, and IS the Sole DVD & Obviously CD player, it Should play them without me changing any settings, right? If this has been addressed somewhere, send me the thread, as I DID look around here first to see if anyone posted something similar to this problem. Or PM me. My gear is listed below so it's pretty basic without a seperate CD player or Amps, etc.

Driver King, Liquidice, CrazyBLUE, Big Daddy, JJ -- or whomever might listen to CD's a lot more than myself, what do I need to try? Do I change something in my settings maybe? PM's are welcome from anyone & Thanks for understanding my confusion.

Why not use analog IC cables, a coax cable, or a toslink (optical) cable? HDMI is mainly for convenience.

I think that even if you can transmit via HDMI that the other cables may sound better.

Hmmm.... Interesting. the panny should automatically output cd audio via hdmi to the onkyo 706. I'm not familiar with panny BDPs. Is there an audio setting for cds?

On the Panny? I'm not sure. Won't hurt to check, but I just thought since it plays DVD's as usual, it would/should do the same for regular Cd's.

You'd be surprised to find out. If you have a ps3, it'll do abetter job at playing cds than the panny though...

Lol, but as noted below, I just have the 50" TV, Panny Bluray player, DirecTV HD-DVR, & Onkyo 607 AVR. I'll try the menu on my player in a couple. Thx.

*** EDIT: I have Audio now, but I had to to press "WATCH A DVD" (on my Harmony One), as for some reason, it isn't giving me Audio when I press "LISTEN TO CD's" -- One problem kind of solved but it still should Play a Cd when I press that I would think (????) ***

ah i see, it looks like what happened is your remote is selecting the wrong inputs on your receiver or some incorrect option with the receiver. Glad you solved it i know how frustrating things like this can be

yea - well, yes And no. I mean, the Harmony One does have "Listen To CD's" for one of the activities so it Should Play the CD With Audio when I press that. Not a Big deal overall, but I'd like to know why it isn't doing what it should.

right but when you press listen to cd it seems to me that it is selecting either the wron input or something other than hdmi, maybe opticl or coxal.

You need to press Watch a DVD, not Listen to CDs, on your remote. When using the Panasonic BD player as your CD player, you need to select the same input on your receiver for both activities. Listen to CDs almost certainly selects some other input on your AVR, one that you aren't using.

If you want to use the Listen to CDs button, you'll need to reconfigure it to use the same HDMI input as Watch a DVD. Listen to CDs probably doesn't bother to turn on the TV.

That seems to be the correct choice, pressing "Watch a DVD". It works the same way in the end so it's all good.

This is exactly what you need to do Aerodude. I know we talked last night about your Onkyo volume levels and fixed it, that you may not remember afterwards about your audio issue of me telling you to ignore and "CD" settings in your Onkyo since it was the Panny playing the CD. Remember when I told you to "line out" any CD settings in the Onkyo as you don't have a dedicated CD player? I was under the impression you had also tried to do this "by hand" and it still wasn't working, which really confused me. But now I see you had used only your remote and "Listen a CD" will surely change inputs and such. In the end, I'm just glad you figured it out!

EDIT: changed to "listen"

Yes I did "line out" the CD settings, but also I think you meant "Listen To CD's" vice Watch. What I found is that I still have to press "WATCH A DVD" on my Remote and it'll work that way.
