I kinda have this feeling of an impending doom. I kinda wanna sell my stuff on ebay, 13 HD DVDs and the 360 player. But i am not sure, i'm kinda like, i have these movies, and some i will have to get on blu-ray now, the rest are universal. but, i have spent like, 200 on the player and 300 on movies. but i kninda don't want to spend more, cuz i feel like its not going to survive. anyone have any suggestions?

You could put the player (and movies, to try and package the deal) on ebay w/ a reserve. Sometimes that dissuades people from bidding, but you will be protecting your end of it. You could also list it on Craigslist, or any site like that. Also, check into posting it on a forum (not this one, of course, as I don't think you'll get much desire for a HD DVD player on a BD site!) like AVS forum. I'm sure you'll catch hell from pro-HD DVD people ("you're making a huge mistake, I can't believe you think the format which only has one major exclusive studio and one player manufacturer will lose!), but hey, sticks and stones, you know.
Also, since it's the add-on, speak w/ other 360 owners, like on xbox forums. I'm sure you can get some interest on those. I hope you're part of a growing tide of people doing this! |

Rent more, buy less until HD DVD's chance of survival or lack thereof is more clear. As soon as Universal goes neutral, unload your stuff while you can still find someone to buy it. Though, you might always want to keep it until the first Universal BDs come out, just incase they shaft the BD format with something inferior to the HD DVD due to poor QC at first.
The PS3 alone practically insures BDs survival. HD DVD can't change that. It can only affect the scale of BDs success/size and speed of its growth. Of course some will tell you that supporting HD DVD at all is hurting the industry and yourself in the long run. And I can't argue with that. I honestly feel guilty everytime I watch an HD DVD. But writing for the spot, I can't afford to turn a blind eye, even if I have grown disenchanted (to put it mildly) with the motives and principles the HD DVD format has been built on. The only reason why I'm keeping my HD-DVD player is for HD porn but if MORE HD porn ever catches on Blu-ray, I'll be getting rid of my 360 w/ HD-DVD. Sure I'll miss my favorite game Dead or Alive 4 but no worries, it's coming to PS3 exclusively!!

I'm in the same boat with my HD-A1, except I have around 70 movies (which doesn't compare to my 100+ Blu-Rays). But I basically quit buying movies on HD-DVD months ago because of how hard it was to get a movie to playback properly. I think the last ones I got were Smokin' Aces, Happy Feet, Children of Men and 40 Year Old Virgin. The only one that played alright until the layer change was Children of Men. But I think I will keep my player and use it as an upconverting player and keep my movies just in case for some freak reason they're not released on Blu-Ray, since most of the movies I have are HD-DVD exclusive (For now...).

Has the English language deteriorated so much that the misuse of the word "like" has transcended beyond speech and into writing?
That said, sell it while it has value, or at least don't dig the HD-DVD hole deeper by buying more movies. |

My opinion of the matter is keep what you still want.
The money is already spent, sure you can recoup some, but if the 'war' stagnants, you may find yourself wanting those Universal titles sooner than Universal bends. You can recoup some, but, well, don't switch gears just on a feeling. Regret sucks, but it also sucks the second time around ![]() |
